My wife reminds me to go check the taps when we first arrive to the restaurant, God bless her.

Sometimes I also check Untappd and see what people are drinking before leaving the house--my wife takes forever to get out the door so I usually the have time to kill anyways. This works best with places I've already checked-in to on there but I wish it allowed you to search by venue name so I could check any place ahead of time.

This response was much more [drops the mic]-worthy than the post that spawned it. Nice job, yemenmocha, nice job.

Well said. I thought this thread was the EXACT place for people to list these kinds of concerns so why are people getting so butt-hurt over it? This isn't the "Tell a story of the best service you've ever had" thread. Damn, people.

The whole point of this thread is to talk about complaints people have about bars, bro.

The point everyone is trying to make is why a person exhibiting very anti-social behaviors, hanging out a social place such as...ding ding ding a bar! people go to bars because there are other people there, why would you go to a bar not to interact with people, if you don't like people stay home! I stand by my first inquiry, that some people want to have something to bitch about otherwise their life is too stale

Maybe the person doesn't want to sit at home all night. I think it is totally understandable if someone wants go out in public, but still be left alone. It shouldn't bother any other patrons in the bar if there were someone sitting there reading. I go out to bars for my reasons, and I certainly respect everyone else going to a bar for their own reasons.

I go to bars because...Are you ready for this....there is beer there!
My original statement had nothing at all saying I get annoyed when people make polite conversation...I take a book because most people do not chose to interact with each other they chose to screw around on myspace or play candy crush hence all the discussion of the need for outlets!

Could not agree with this more. There's way too much "I know more than you" bullshit getting into the craft movement. A friend of mine is slowly getting into craft and is trying out stuff like Dead Guy, 60 Minute, etc, easier drinkers with good flavor. He asked me on FB what would be a good first pumpkin to try. I recommended Shipyard Pumpkinhead because I think it's mild but tasty and is a great starter for someone trying pumpkins for the first time. And a d-bag from his page starts talking about how Pumpkinhead is shit and Pumking is way better and on and on. Why do people have to do this? There's like this instinct some people have to just put people down at every chance they get.

If I'm at a dive bar with Coors signs everywhere, regardless of what the waittress jokingly says, I kind of have some idea of what I'm going to be able to get there. I might ask about a few common crafts like SNPA or some such. If I get no's, then I bump down to a Yuengling or PBR and say thanks.

i never said i don't tip males bartenders and in my original post i said i prefer female bartenders. I just asked every person at work which they prefer and not one person including females said a male bartenders. not once in my life hanging out with different people had they ever said they prefer male bartenders. why is this such a problem for you. why are you misquoting my posts?

Why doesn't a person want to sit at home all night if they hate the people at bars? It just seems like a bar is the last place you would go to. A) not be bothered and most of all B) read a f'en book. and it is understandable for someone to not be bothered in public, but a bar it is probably not the best place to not be bothered there are better places like a library if you want to read a book

This may come as a shock to you but, often bars have beers that us unfortunate people don't have at home. We're not as lucky as you, where you have every beer made available at your fingertips. And, maybe we're friends with the bartender (you know they have lives outside the bar, right?) and like to grab a beer and say hi. Or maybe we want to see one or two people and that's where we're going to meet, and read while waiting. Perhaps we like to people- watch, and one of the best ways is to pretend you're focusing on something else. Or maybe we have our own reasons, which are none of your damn business. There's a few reasons.

People go to a bar for different reasons. Some want to socialize; some want to relax which may mean reading a book or a magazine or a newspaper or a computer; some want to watch TV- a sporting event. Not everyone wants to socialize everythime they got into a bar.

This isn't a problem at all for me and I really shouldn't waste my time here replying but here goes.
You say: "i never said i don't tip males bartenders"
Me: I never said you did. I said, "...won't tip male bartenders as well". ("as well" meaning "as much". sorry if I was unclear.)
You say: "...in my original post i said i prefer female bartenders"
Me: I was referring to your post saying, "I prefer to stare at a chic. and I normally tip less to a dude too."
"Stare at a chic" is not the same as "prefer female bartenders".

Moral of the story: I want the most capable person serving me, whether it be a woman, man or talking chicken.

I'm with you, brother. I still don't have a smartphone myself. The reason this point is #3 on my list is b/c I hate hearing everyone crying that their phone is going to run out of juice, just like you.

But the title of this thread is "Most Overlooked". I'm not saying it should be expected for a bar to provide an outlet for every person who patronizes the establishment, just that almost everyone has a smartphone and that not having some/more outlets for patrons to use is an overlooked item.

I hate that the world is constantly connected to their mobile device. I want to punch people when I see them out to dinner and they stop talking to the LIVE person they are with to text or get a ticker update. I REALLY pisses me off. Just sayin, everyone's connected 24/7 now, and it's an overlooked item not having outlets for people to charge their devices.

Btw, I love that so many people are throwing back comments arguing against this point.

Too many is a bad thing at some places, but if it weren't for TVs, I'd have nothing to do if I wanted to grab an unplanned pint by myself after my shift.

I think in most cases, a patron can tell from other interactions an cues whether the texts are "important" or not. For instance, if a bartender, after each rare trip down the bar to refresh everyone's drink goes right back to the phone, it's probably not to send a tap change, especially if patrons aren't being served due to said phone use.

Plus, even if you as a manager/owner do want to know about (or have updated quickly) tap changes, do you/"not-in-the-bar public" need to know the info at the exact moment of a change, or should your bartender be good enough to pick a time when all patrons at-the-bar are properly served? You seem to indicate a craft beer place that is completely rockin', and if that's the case, there should be more than enough management there that are not direct lines to the customer that can do this informing/texting.

Certainly I would agree that there is no need to be condescending or rude, but the argument isn't baseless. I wouldn't be expected to order my food without seeing a menu - why shouldn't I know what beer is available before I order? I don't really care how they tell me - if the server memorizes every single beer in the joint, or consults a cheat-sheet; if the establishment places fliers on the table or a chalkboard where it can be seen - but if I want to know what they have, saying "everything" is the equivalent of saying nothing.

I apologize, too - I read it the same way as Providence - I think you can see how one could reasonably misinterpret that statement. Thanks for the clarification. :flushed:

I just went back and looked, and, no I don't really see it. But, I'm blunt in person, and I try to be concise when typing, so I agree that there's room for varying viewpoints there. Were I more verbose, I wouldn't have created that confusion. Cheers! (just not with a Super Brew 15)
