OK Deschutes, now that I've got your attention. Every year, you release Jubelale. I really like this beer. I often forget how much I like it until I have it again.

So what I want you to do is, every year when you brew Jubelale, put some of it in bourbon barrels. Age it in there for a few months, or even longer. Maybe you'd take this year's regular Jubelale and barrel-age it, and release it next fall. Wax-capped bombers, "best after" date, the whole deal. I don't know, maybe do that with a quarter of the whole batch. Or an eighth. Make a shitload of it, so it's easy to get.

The point is this. You could make a really amazing beer that people would buy. I think it would be amazing. One of my all-time favorite beers is Fremont Bourbon Abominable, which is a bourbon barrel aged winter warmer. It's great! See where I'm going with this? We need more of those. Barrel aged stouts and barleywines are great and all, but come on, let's mix it up. It's almost 2014 for Pete's sake.

Who's with me? And while we're on the subject. what other regular beers do you want to get the barrel treatment? Cheers!

The recent news of The Dissident becoming annual is good enough for me!

Why have an ordinary Jubelale when you could have it from Bourbon barrels? I mean like, you know, why bother with Black Butte, you know, when you could drink an Obsidian Stout instead?

Jubelale is a mighty fine beer. I think they'd have to alter the recipe to up the ABV and thicken the body in order to barrel age. Otherwise the spice and other subtleties would be lost with the bourbon/oak.

Jubel (once a decade ale) is a frozen distilled version of Jubale. Story goes, years back, some idiots tried to steal a keg of Jubelale from the brewery in the middle of winter. They took too many to carry and ended up leaving a keg behind that froze overnight. When the folks at deschutes recovered the frozen keg, they decided to not waste it and just drink it... turned out to be pretty darn good and Jubel was born.

Ahhhh yeahhh...You are speakin' some sexy language there, OP. Jubelale is my 'go to' during the holidays and a barrel aged version would be a thing of glory.

Dogfish Head Indian Brown would do well out of a bourbon barrel, me thinks.

I disagree. Bell's did a barrel-aged version of Oberon that was great. If they treat is correctly, it would be delicious without changes.

I do enjoy both Abominable ale and Jubelale but I don't think they're the same style. Abominable ale (to me anyway) taste more like stout while Jubelale tastes like... a winter warmer. I am sure Jubelale will taste great barrel-aged regardless.

We don't get Deschutes in Florida, so be happy with what you can get.

Jubel is not freeze distilled. That's just the story of that one keg that inspired them to make a stronger version of Jubelale.

Thought topic title was a call out to Deschutes about wider distribution.

Yeah that's right, the frozen distilled version only inspired them, but is not how it was produced. Good catch!

I'm sure that it would be very good, but Velvet Merkin comes to mind. The merkin just doesn't have enough body to support the oak/bourbon notes.

I think the barrel aged version of Jubel over the standard Jubelale would be have more to offer.

Anyone ever tried taking a case of commercial beer and dumping it in an airlock with some bourbon-soaked oak chips for a couple weeks? For anyone that has homebrewing equipment this might be something to try!
