I'm a pale ale and IPA drinker. However, my eyes have been opened to the wonders of bourbon barrel stouts and other amazing beers. Founder's KBS opened my eyes this past year and I've since enjoyed Founder's Doom, New Holland Dragon's Milk and Heavy Seas Siren Noire. I would love to try more bourbon stouts and other bourbon brews. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try Bourbon County Brand Stout (BCBS). The gold standard of barrel aged beers.

In your neck of the woods, Olde Hickory Event Horizon & Lindley Park would be no brainers for me.

Not sure how much of it you'll get in NC, but If I were you I would seriously seek out Bourbon County Brand Stout and all the variants when they become available soon.

Good luck & enjoy ~ you'll never look back!

I'm not sure what NC gets, but I see White Oak a lot. If you guys get the Bruery. It's 50% ale 50% Bourbon aged. Worth a try. BCBS obviously since it's out soon.

Three Floyds Dark Lord, Goose Island BCBS (should be coming out soon), Cigar City's BBA Hunahpu, AleSmith BBA Speedway Stout, and about ten bajillion more beers that are usually even harder to obtain.

Being in NC, you should hit up Foothills brewing for the release of Sexual Chocolate. They did the release I believe the Saturday before the Super Bowl this past year at the brewery in Winston-Salem, so the release should be coming up within the next few months

I don't know anything about Siren Noir, but the other 3, IMO, have a relatively mild barrel-presence. By no means is that a bad thing since KBS is arguably my favorite beer, but they're not bourbon bombs. I'd attempt to stay in that range for a bitt. A fresh BCBS might be a bit much, but if you can find BCBS with a year or so on it...it's heaven.

I highly recommend the entire Firestone Walker barrel lineup of Parabola, Sucaba, Double DBA, Velvet Merkin, and the Anniversary series. They're not too terribly difficult to trade for, and there's a lot of great CA traders on here that don't ransom them.

If you can find Epic brewing "Big bad Baptist" I would recommend grabbing it. Awesome BA stout! If you live anywhere close to VA like I do, seek out Alewerks "Cafe Royale" just hit the shelves last week.
And like the previous post, FW BA beers are a must try for anyone that craves a bourbon infused brew!

Like the other guy said, Firestone Walkers entire lineup of barrel aged beers is awesome. Nobody does it better than them. And next year there will be some new additions so availablitiy should increase. I have a case of 17 if you have KBS to trade. But there are so many good ones and really the only thing that could limit your access to them is money. They get pricey

Other that show distribution to NC, that you mat have access to - which I would recommend:

    Avery - Uncle Jacobs Stout
Clown Shoes - Luchardo Enfuego, Very Angry Beast
    Hoppin Frog - BA B.O.R.I.S.

New Holland's Dragon's Milk seems to be the easiest to find (but it's not one of the best BBA beers), but I don't know if it is available in NC.

You're getting all kinds of suggestions in this thread that are likely only available to you if you are a trader. If you are, then check out the trading forum.

My advice is to go to the best beer store that you can find close to where you live and check with them which BBA beers they can hook you up with.

    Well, you've got:
BA(barrel aged) stouts- Dark Lord, KBS, BCBS
BA IIPAs- Doom, and He'Brew has a good rye IIPA aged in rye barrels
BA Strong Ales/barleywines- Stone's Oaked Bastard, Founders Bolt-Cutter
And of course in the "other" catagory, Founders Backwoods Bastard, a BA scotch ale, and Boulevard's Rye-on-Rye, a rye ale aged in rye barrels. It seems like rye is a love-or-hate thing, but I've had a couple great local barleywines aged in rye barrels, too.
All are very different, and I'm sure you'll have a favorite style of BA beers. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of BA stouts. Well, I would rather have a BA stout than the "regular" version, but I just don't crave enormously sweet stouts very often. I'm a huge fan of Founders Backwoods Bastard, Doom, and Bolt-Cutter, and most other BA barleywines I've tried. I would LOVE to see more BA-scotch ales, I mean, a scotch-on-scotch ale just seems essential :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow...I've got some work to do! I'll have to look into trading for many of these(Firestone Walker,Three Floyds, Cigar City, AleSmith etc.). I will definitely check out Goose Island BCBS and Old Hickory Event Horizon since they will be out soon. I can also get Founders, Foothills, Epic, The Bruery and Clown Shoes. What about the many oak aged Yetis, Bells Black Note, Great Lakes Blackout Stout or Weyerbacher Heresy...they look promising, too. I appreciate all the great ideas! Thanks.
