Store etiquette

Never.

I wouln't expect to see a retailer in PA with brewery stuff to give away. Now if there's a tasting going on and I buy a case of beer from the folks staging the tasting I'd not be surprised to get a free shaker pint with the brewery logo on it from the rep conducting the tasting. However, I usually tell the retailer to keep the glass and give it to someone else as a shaker pint is my least preferred glass.

 

I have never asked, but I am being asked if I would like some swag now. I have built a good relationship IMO.

 

ONly if there is a promotion from the brewery itself. But I ask the promoter about it, but typically it is either for BMC or most recently at a distributor (I am in PA) I asked about getting a Samuel Smith glass, but I had to shell out 70 bucks on a case to get it, as if the people coming in are going to drop money on that instead of their typical BMC stuff.

 

If I see a pile of keychains or something of that nature I will ask if its a giveaway. Rare occurrence

I don't visit stores in hopes of free swag. I visit stores in hopes of finding a beer I like.

 

Very true, but if you see something in a pile of a beer you enjoy, wouldn't you see if you could have one?

Never asked. I always assume that any free swag is for release parties and beerfests.

 

I always match my tap handles to my kegs, and always try to buy them before I get the keg. Every now and then I get shut out and I ask at the store when I order the keg if they can get me the handle.

Usually the promo stuff is at the tasting booth at the bottle shop I frequent. This week was a sam adams tasting. Buy a twelver, get a pintg glass. The only thing I ask for are stickers. I'm a mechanic and am hellbent to cover my toolbox in stickers. So far I'm doing a good job. But other thn asking for the stickers once in a while, I don't ask for anything else.

 

Never even thought to ask about promo's. I buy enough swag online as it is.

My biggest hurdle was saying "hey, what's behind the counter?" Once they realized I wasn't being creepy but only asking about the good stuff, things got awesome.
