Recently I made the very foolish mistake of over-packing a grocery bag with beer, and for the first-time, I fully realized that gut-wrenching sensation as the handle snaps and seeing your beer haul disappear into pieces of glass and a puddle of utter discontentment on the hard concrete parking lot. While I was looking forward to consuming the contents of said bag that weekend, it was only a bomber of Green Flash Green Bullet that smashed, neither particularly expensive, limited in availability at the time, or despite being a personal seasonal favorite, nothing world class. Once I got over the initial feeling of frustration and replenished my stock of Green Bullet again, I could not help but to think, what if that had been something else. i.e. something very expensive, rare, etc. With that, I am interested to hear others beer journey mishaps from purchase to fridge.

Not the same thing, but I had a drunk friend last weekend take a BA DORIS out of my fridge, pour it in a glass, and then forget about it. I found it sitting on the counter in the basement a good day and a half later. I was a sad panda.

I told this story last month, but I'll repost it here because it's seriously the most heartbreaking thing and I still can't believe this happened:

"My girlfriend (the girl in my profile pic) is not a beer snob, but she's a total nerd and she set out to buy me a bunch of great beers. She made a spreadsheet that aggregated the scores of the top beers on several different websites and then calculated the highest total scores and tried buy as many of those as possible as well as a few other little gems. This was about a 2 month long beer hunt. Keep in mind, she doesn't like beer, won't even drink it.

Obviously this was being done without my knowing for my birthday. One day, about 10 days before the day, she is really distant and agitated. Not with me, but I can just see something is really bothering her. She confesses that she bought me a bunch of beer and was storing it all in a big white box at her mom's. She had packed it in her car and was bringing it to her place and the bottom wasn't secured. Nearly every beer, except ONE, fell out and broke. Every bottle except one, ruined.

She showed me the list of what was in there. The beers in this box were as follows: Goose Island BCBS, Pliny the Elder, Boulevard BBQ, Fat Head's Headhunter, Abyss, BA Speedway, Avery Samael, Supplication, Consecration, Founders KBS. Swear on my life. And the only beer that survived? You guessed it. Samael. She was able to get a few of those again and is working on a similar haul now for Christmas, but this really broke my heart. And yes, I know, I'm very lucky."

I love how tw always packed them in boxes, but even they can break. I carry them in the 4 or 6 pack, and I carry bombers by themselves.

I've only broken one beer but it was a KBS and one of my very first 4-pack, earlier this year.

Held on to the remaining 3 pretty tightly...

My buddy dropped a 2009 bcbs at darkness day as he was getting in the camper. We were upset for a moment, but then got in the very warm camper at a time when most were bundled up in the cold. Life could be worse.

Yeah, I think she loves the order and intracacies of the craft scene, but she just hates the beer itself. But she's very order and detail oriented, so this kind of stuff really appeals to her. Every couple of days, she starts name dropping breweries and beers and what people are saying about them and she's scouting out bottles, even stuff I'm not familiar with. She knows a ton about beer, but couldn't tell you what any of them truly taste like. Very odd.

Totally. She told me the Pliny was so overrated and unfresh that the ants on the ground of the parking lot wouldn't even drink that swill.

Last year at Dark Lord day, I saw some drunk dude trip, fall and drop an unknown Dark Lord variance as it shattered on the pavement.

My gf dropped a Rare in its box off the counter onto hardwood floor.
I saw my life flash before my eyes, but thankfully the box did its job and the rare was unharmed.

That also happened this year at DLD. I bet this happens every year at DLD - especially those of us getting bottles at the end of the day.

And friends laugh when I secure my padded beer carriers with a seatbelt when transporting. It's for a damn good reason!
