All my friends think I'm a bit off, but in 90% of beers I try I prefer straight out of the bottle. I often split a beer between it's bottle and a mug/ tulip/ wine glass and almost always go for the bottle. I don't know. It's as if the bottle actually holds the flavor in better. In my opinion. In fact I don't care for beer on tap. I had a Pliny on tap in Denver and was not impressed. Picked up some bottles from Argonaut and was blown away. Same with Heady Topper in a can vs glass. The only true exception I can think of is Dogfish Head 120 IPA. Overwhelming in the bottle. But perfect when allowed to warm just a bit in a glass. Just wondered if anyone felt the same. I'm sure this has been visited often here, and I did a quick search. But decided to re-visit. Thanks!

Depends on the beer for me, but about 90% of the time I prefer a glass. Only time I don't is when I am pour and just pounding Lionshead or some other low quality beer for the effect (typically sorrow from a penguin game).

If it's a macro lager I'll drink it from the bottle/can. If I'm outside, I might drink from the bottle/can. But 97% of the time I use a glass.

pretty firmly in the glass camp.

but recently i have regressed a little. if it is just my everyday ipa type beer i have had 8 million times, been rolling with just the bottle more. as they say, "fuggedaboutit."

I started a similar thread a few weeks ago that was closed...though mine involved cans to glass. Anyway, you have to try each beer both ways to make an informed decision. There are plenty that I prefer in can form...plenty I prefer in glass.

The only time I drink from the bottle is when I'm simultaneously driving the lawnmower.

If the beer has little or no aroma or complexities then yep, straight out of the bottle or can. But it really is amazing how many more flavors you get if you can smell the beer.

If I'm driving or carrying babies I prefer the bottle. Doesn't spill as easily.

I prefer mine from a glass, it's easier to enjoy the flavor and aroma that way IMO.

If it's not in a glass, I wonder what it looks like, or how much better it would be if I could get my nose all up in there.

So 10-1 so far for a glass. See. My friends were right. I'm a bit off. But I still think I'm right. Beer simply tastes better straight from the bottle! And it still smells great! I love the smell as soon as that top is popped! So no issue with smell, and I think the bottle itself traps in more of the taste. As do cans.

Pouring a beer into a glass is supposed to agitate it and release more volatiles, and the head creates a sort f net that traps them, enhancing the aroma and flavor. I can honestly say they taste DIFFERENT in a bottle and glass, but I suppose it's (somewhat) subjective if it tastes better.

Prefer bottled beer to on tap, but regardless of how it's packaged I always prefer to drink it from a glass. You're missing out if you can't smell the beer as you drink regardless of style.

The only time I prefer to drink from the bottle/can is when I'm drinking something cheap with little to no aroma. Otherwise, I feel like it takes away from fully tasting the beer.

I always drink my beer from a glass, most afficianado's of good beer do, or should. I do agree with you however on bottle over regular draft, many times I have liked the bottled version better. I always though prefer cask conditioned beer over all. This is mainly when I take my yearly trip to England. Cask here at home I have found to be inconsistent.

If I have said it once . . . better drinking through proper glassware. The beer in the bottle has no color to observe and the nose is lost. A beer is a delightful thing and need to be appreciated for all of it's beauty. Beer glassware is exciting in and of itself. Can you say that a pilsner in the pilsner glass doesn't tickle the eye a little bit? or a hefeweizen in it's tall glass with subtle curves?

Hefe's in the right glass are almost too picturesque to drink
