My wife started sipping on my brews about 10 years ago and enjoying them for the most part. Once she was introduced to Sours, it was on. She won't touch anything but a sour. Period. All of my trades MUST include at least 1 sour or she frowns upon it. I love it!

As a female craft beer drinker, it gets old when I receive the same reaction from guys who figure out I'm really into beer. They are so astonished by the fact that most of the time I know more about beer than they do. I've turned a few exes onto craft beer and they haven't looked back. I do wish I had more girlfriends who liked beer as much as me.

Get her some Ayinger Celebrator. That's how I got my gf into dark beer after she thought she hated it (all Guinness' fault). Now she likes BCBS, FBS, etc..

Agreed. There should not be a separation. Everyone should enjoy beer and we should all do it together. There should not be a line in the sand.

Well, maybe one day you'll like beer too.

You're more than probably correct about the growth difference but the stripper thing was the first comparison that came to mind.

She does like Aventinus, but I think the drier styles don't yet suit her. Celebrator is a great idea.

I think the overall impression of a beer drinker being a homely dude sitting on the couch by himself slamming a six pack has changed immensely. Anyone who frowns on a female into craft beer, or thinks they aren't capable of having the same knowledge and palate needs to be brought back down to earth. You're not any more special that she is.

With that being said, I think most in the craft beer world welcome anyone who wants to be a part of it, male or female.

Nope. She went in blind. She's not the kind of person who gives a shit about hype. She tells it like it is. She's tasted plenty of hyped beers that she didn't like. You should have seen her face when she tasted Sucaba.

My wife is very picky about beer. She's found a couple she didn't mind, though. She thought New Glarus Moon Man was pretty good, and she enjoyed Russian River sours, Frangelic Mountain Brown, and Velvet Merkin.

you should try something like New Glarus Spotted Cow or FFF Alpha King, both are great beers but don't stray too much from your standard lager in general look and feel, taste is much better though.

I think there are certainly trends in female craft drinking preferences and I have noticed some extremely common patterns in my own experiences around women drinking craft beers. To start with one of the most common examples - Coors' Blue Moon.

My longtime sweetheart has come to "appreciate" beer, in the sense that though she'll rarely drink one herself, she tastes pretty much any new beer I'm drinking and gives what's usually a very apt appraisal before turning back to her enormous bag of weed.

Mine is also picky. She likes the lighter stuff, which means she hates 99% of the beer I like.

Her favs are Abita Strawberry, Summer Shandy, and (gulp)..Corona with lime. The first two are seasonal, and the third I feel dirty buying unless I'm spending a day on the boat. It's not easy finding her beer this time of year. All she's got in the beer fridge right now is some Woodchuck.

I am a female beer drinker. It is a passion that my boyfriend and I share (I think equally). We plan our vacations around what breweries we want to visit, go to beer fests, and try as many different brews that we can. People are often surprised that as a female I love big hoppy IPAs and DIPAs and barrel aged brews. Something I notice when going to beer releases, especially limited beer releases, is that other dudes always think I am just there as a mule to get more beers for my boyfriend. I am not. I am just as excited about beer and will be drinking my share and enjoying it!

I would love to but neither are distributed here:slight_frown:. Luckily she is willing to try new things and so far she likes witbiers, hefes, saisons. so if i can get her to drink craft more often then she hopefully wont want to go back to BMC. Once you go craft, theres no going back!

Agree. Why do we have to obsess over categorizing people?
    Female craft beer drinks
    gay craft beer drinkers
old vs. young craft beer drinkers
people of color drinking craft beer
economic status of craft beer drinkers
    social status etc etc

These are silly artificial constructs, mostly designed to separate people and see them as a group, not individuals, and mostly based on appearance. If we had a group like the above list together at a bar, probably the only thing everyone would agree on is that they love craft beer. Other than that, there would be a very wide spectrum of interests and opinions.

Let's consider our fellow BAs as real people, not a statistical segment of a demographic.

My wife is not really a beer drinker at all. She's more of a wine/cocktail kind of girl. She tries the different beers I drink but she doesn't care for them too much, however, she LOVES Lindemans Framboise Lambic. She could drink that all day.
