This site needs to change its name to CraftBeerAdvocate, whatever that means. I'll be spending the rest of my evening doing internet searches on the beer I have in my fridge to determine which of them I need to pour down the drain because they are not true "Craft" brews, once again, whatever that means.

Hmmm, let's see, this one apparently has 25% ownership from a "non-craft" brewer--down the drain she goes. It's all about "Craft" and has nothing to do with the taste and enjoyment of a particular beer.

I don't think it's too much of a stretch to extend this argument to people who drink "bourbon." Why do they need to label their whiskey?

Dude sounds like an elitist prick ... I love how in the blog post he talks about how Goose Island sold out, and then when you check whats on tap at his BBQ joint, he has Goose Island on. Ugh. What a douche bag

I could care less who makes a beer, just as long as I like it. Ive been to plenty of breweries around us that seem like they are just trying to cash in on the craft craze right now and their beers are terrible.

Well, if the mention of Goose Island keeps people from purchasing BCBS, I'm fine with that. All your BCBS are belong to me.

I think some people feel tricked that it is made by a small group of entrepreneurial artisans when, in fact, it is one of the conglomerates. Why doesn't MillerCoors put their name on Blue Moon? Yeah, it is likely a different management team, and philosophy, perhaps, at the spinoff...but the marketing muscle is still there.

Has anyone ever done sales for a beer distributor? My guess is that they give retailers greater discounts if they stock more brands...MillerCoors' alone has Miller Lite, Miller High Life, Miller High Life Light, Miller 64, Miller Genuine Draft, Redd's Apple Ale, Redd's Strawberry Ale, Coors' Banquet, Coors' Light, Batch 19, Third Shift, Icehouse, Red Dog, Blue Moon, Keystone, Keystone Light, Mickey's, Hamm's, Sharp's, Henry Weinhard's, George Killian's, plus about a dozen more...I could easily see 10% off list for 10-14 brands, 15% for 15+ brands....

I dont know whiskey as much as I do beer and wine, but i am assuming bourbon is more of a noun than an adjective (as craft is an adjective, not a noun)

The outrage makes it sound like AB-Inbev make their beers out of blood diamonds and mink fur.

Don't care who owns what and BREW is a great stock. My gains from selling some shares (plus those from SAM) have paid for every beer I drank in 2013, from microbrewed Gandhi Bot to behemoth BCBS. Corporate brewing for the win.

I didn't know about Widmer...though I don't keep close tabs on them. This isn't shocking as they are the kings of false advertising. Really widmer...every bottle is limited and needs to be in a box? COME ON!

Coors Batch 19. I bought this not realizing who made it and immediately I thought "This tastes like Coors light."

Like many here, I couldn't care less who makes it if it's a good brew. I think 'craft' is an OK label as it separates them from the watered down swill that the majority gorges on. You know that it is a better take on beer. I don't see that it insists on a small brewery or non-national distribution. I think 'micro' takes that category. Victory or DFH could sell to AB or MC tomorrow and if the brews tasted as good as they do now, I would still drink them. Now if the quality dropped and became watered down, that's a different animal altogether. In the long run, I don't care how large the brewery is as long as it puts out quality brews.

So your theory is that anti-competitive behavior just proves that competition is alive and well?

Ask the state of Kentucky :stuck_out_tongue: Also Scotland, while you're asking.

Disclaimer: I love bourbon, scotch, and beer. Take that however you will.

Because there are "laws" on what types of whiskey there are, where as craft is a marketing term.
