Brown Shugga cat piss ?

Coming from Georgia, he probably took the 101 North. He may have stopped by for a brief vacation in Lompoc/Santa Maria....

 

Had it the other day - tasted fine to me.

not cat piss, but compared to what else I picked up I moved it to the back of the fridge for when I have company...

 

u r wrong it tastes amazing and awesome. Unless your cat would piss delicious malty and hoppy goodness? Man I'd save a ton of money on beer then if I had a cat like that..

People have different thresholds for the compound. I can't remember it, but @JackHorzempa knows what it is I'm pretty sure. I get mostly grapefruit and pine from Simcoe and have never experienced cat piss. And I brew with it a lot. Not saying it's not there, but to blanketly say it's Simcoe's main attribute does the hop and other readers a disservice.

 

Having never tried cat piss this is a difficult question to answer.
If cat piss is sweet and malty, then yes it does.

I'm no fan of Brown Shugga.
I tried a couple to see if my tastes had changed.
It is still not for me, but there was no hint of urinesqness in mine.

The issue is how individuals perceive a compound called 4MMP.

Below is what I posted in a past thread:

“There is a compound that is present in several varieties of hops (e.g., Citra, Simcoe, etc.) of 4MMP. Due to genetics different folks will perceive 4MMP differently. I personally perceive Simcoe as having a piney flavor but some people (particularly women) can perceive 4MMP as cat pee.”

Never being a connoisseur of fine cat piss, it is hard for me to compare. I love Brown Sugga, and if cat's pee was it, i would own a couple of dozen cats.......


Brown Sugga is an outstanding strong American ale, with just a hint of Siamese and a touch of tabby. A good, strong Persian backbone balances the flavors out quite nicely. Some say they get a touch of Maine ****, but I personally have not found that particular flavor present.

I did hear that next year it will be renamed, as "Alley Cat Ale"

 

I think the simcoe hops can smell catty but I can't say I have ever known them to taste that way. They don't have to be catty though and as often as not, they aren't.

The compound is 4MMP. At lower levels I get piney and some citrus. At high levels it is cat pee. At low levels my wife gets cat pee, as she is much more sensitive.

Hops like Citra, Simcoe, Summit, Apollo, Cluster and Mosiac have it. It is also in NZ and AU hops. Does not seem to be in Eurpean hops.

 

If he has tried Three Stooges Beer, he has tried cat piss.
