Was thinking about making the trip from Syracuse for this one. I know it's release is usually end of January. Anyone know when tickets go on sale?

Unless you wanted to, I wouldn't waste your time on tickets. Just show up the next day and buy your cases without the heftier price tag of the tasting.

Agreed! I hope they do something more with the release party this year. $35 for 4 samples and the right to buy BA Blackout a day early does nothing for me if the beer lasts for a month in the gift shop. I'd LOVE to see cask/variants. I'm not going to hold my breath though.

How much are 4-packs of this roughly?

I missed this last year, will not have the same misstep this year. So good.

Thanks man. I got a bottle or 2 via trades last year and enjoyed them, but didn't realize it was that expensive. Damn.

No one was bitching years ago when the beer was $14 for a 22oz bomber. IMO, it was better then, but still always surprised that people pick on Great Lakes and Hoppin' Frog when so many other beers cost more.

If they put their brewery only releases in wax dipped 750's and charged $30 a bottle it might be worth it then.

I agree if we are having a cost per ounce conversation but if we are comparing BA Blackout to similar beers available in four packs there is absolutely no way I would ever consider picking up Blackout. There are many beers I feel are much better for a lower price.

Hoppin Frog falls into the same conversation for me. I have only had a couple beers that I feel are worth the cost. I can spend much less money to walk away with the same disappointing experience.

This. The bitching is warranted when you think of BCBS, KBS, BBPlead, and Black Note are all way less than $30 for a 4pk. I usually think of $5 a bottle is about the cut off for what a top level BA 12oz should cost. And....then there's WWS! :grimacing: (Not even Barrel Aged!)

Does BA Blackout hit any distribution, or is it brewery only?

We will agree to disagree on this one. We're talking about $5 a bottle versus $7 a bottle. I've spent a lot more on Stone beers that were no where near worth the price tag by comparison. Crime and Punishment both come to mind. I'm going to remember this thread the next time I buy a BA Rasputin. Wishing that bottle was only $14 or so versus the $20 I put down for it.

Since we are talking about BA beers in this thread I completely disagree with this statement. I've never had a BA beer from Hoppin Frog I didn't think was amazing. And price? Can you show me a Pappy aged that costs $16 a bomber from anyone? Every BA Hoppin Frog beer I've had has been far and away stellar and at that price point.

A jump from $5 to $7 is a 40% jump, two bucks may not be a big deal but 40% is significant. Other breweries are not immune to the same critique, there are many that I feel the price is not justified by the product.

I can only wish I had the same experience you have had with Hoppin Frog. Pappy barrels are great but if the beer does not deliver for me before its put in the barrel, there is little chance they Pappy will save it. I will stick with the proven beers available at a lower price point.

We're just going to agree to disagree here. It's still $2. No matter how you look at it. I will gladly pay $2 more for a BA Blackout than most of the swill out there.

Now we're going to flat out disagree here. Boris as a base beer is world class. And to infer its not proven destroys your premise. I'm happy to pay for my overpriced Hoppin Frog beer. Happy Thanksgiving!

We can all be thankful that there is more than enough beer out there for us to enjoy. You can be thankful that I won't be buying up all the Hoppin Frog on you, with the exception of Doris.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm with you here. BORIS Van Wink sounds like a delicious beer. Let's hope it tastes like it sounds!
