I'm enjoying a Fresh Hop IPA from New Belgium as we speak. It advertises that it uses salmon safe hops. I was unaware that hops could be harmful to salmon. Is this a fertilizer thing? Something to do with irrigation? What's the deal?
It's a runoff thing. The growers pay extra special attention to keeping the downstream environment clean. Not sure how rigorous the "certification" is, or if there even *is* a certification.
I'm curious about this too. I am planning on marinating some salmon in some beer for dinner tonight. Don't want to use a beer that is made with hops that will be bad for my salmon.
This all makes perfect sense to me... Save the salmon so that we can eat them later...ideally, paired with a beer made with hops that gave great consideration to the salmon itself.
its good that the hops are safe for salmon but im sure there are much bigger fish to fry when it comes to farm run off. yes pun intended
