Overrated is much better than Furious IMO.

I personally really enjoy the hell out of Furious. I love the fact that the malt backbone gives it an unparalleled mouthfeel for a hoppy beer without overpowering the hops. Truly a unique beer. Maybe I just enjoy a little more balance from the malt character in an IPA. Whatever it is, it works well for my tastes. For the record, I'm not a native Minnesotan and it's not homerism. It either works well for my palate or it doesn't, regardless of where it may be brewed.

You seriously think I started this thread to smear Furious? I didn't post a review because I thought there was a chance I bought a bad batch of beer. I would not receive feedback from a review, so I decided to use the medium that allows for the fedback I wanted. Shouldn't you be happy I didn't just trash the beer and move on?

Knowing Furious is closer to a red or amber heps me understand my reaction; I came in expecting a more traditional American IPA, and I also really don't like reds and ambers very much.

Now see, didn't the forums do exactly what they were created to do: promote discussion, clear up confusion, and save people from buying beer they don't enjoy?

Mildly hopped IPA? Is there such a thing? I'm afraid everyone has been spoiled by beers like Pliny, Heady, and Zombie Dust. Many IPA's have more malt balance, and that's obviously a characteristic that is becoming less desirable these days. Five years ago people would have been flamed for suggesting Furious wasn't very good. Now there seems to be a bunch of people in agreement of that notion. Perhaps it is not the beer many of you want it to be, but I'd say it's still damn tasty.

It may be Surly's flagship beer, but it is far from their best beer. It is also a very inconsistent beer. You may not like one batch, but try it again in three months and you will wonder if you are really drinking the same beer. Also, it always seems like some sort off oddball style that doesn't taste like any other IPA...and that could be good or bad, depending on each person's tastes. At times, I have had it on tap and thought that it was one of the best beers that I had ever had, but other times it can be a beer that I struggle through just to finish a glass. Hopefully with the new brewery, they will get the consistency thing under control, because it is not just this beer. Bender, Coffee Bender and Cacao Bender are also all beers that can be amazing one time and be completely underwhelming the next (and maybe back to Amazing and back and forth). And not talking old kegs, unclean lines, etc., but actual variances in what was released by Surly. But give it a try again in another batch or so down the line or if you didn't like it in a can, try it on tap (or the other way around).

NO! You're NOT missing something. Jesus. What is it with people needing affirmation. Drink what you like. The craft beer community has become ridiculous over the last 5 years.

I've had a few bad ones over the years, so it's possible you just got an off batch. Usually, it's a damn good beer. As others have mentioned, it's not an IPA so those comparisons aren't really fair.

What you are missing is the capability to go in to a beer with the full intention of just actually drinking it free of presupposition
Pour it in the glass; and figure it out from that..

I came here to post this. I had some on tap a couple of months ago, and wondered why I ever stopped drinking it. It was amazing again. And again and again, for the next few weeks. Had some this weekend that was just OK.

Had some Furious yesterday! It was canned on 11-11-13! Had it for the first time, just over a year ago! It was just as good, if not better, this time! Got a shipment the first time, of, Bitter Brewer, Cynic, Hell and Coffee Bender and thought Furious was the best! I'm looking forward to Abrasive! Heard that's their best offering, other than the obvious!

I think furious is very drinkable every day beer. I am glad that we get it in Chicago again.

Yep, unfortunately I think all of us in MN can attest to this. I don't want to throw out a reason as to why I think they are having some consistency issues, because it would be pure speculation. On the other hand, I have also had Furious that has made me question why I don't always have it in my fridge, and then had a can that makes me lose interest.

You do your beershopping with a cooler in your car? That, my friend, is hardcore.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo is better than Furious, so are many widely available others. Don't buy another four pack, the taste will not change.

Shit, sometimes a beer just isn't as good as you thought it was gonna be. Take the 'L', chalk it up to 'experience', move on
