It would have cool to have done the side by side before posting. I get you wanted to know if anybody has done the side by side but I feel like it was just a big tease.

I was actually asking if anybody planned on or had done one already. They are both on the same level. Anybody saying one is much better than the other is full of it. They just differ in character. And personally I liked the toned down fruitiness of the Sucaba.

Not taking a stand in this argument but I will say drinking BCBW after BCBS is definitely the wrong order if you want to taste what all BCBW has to offer. Cheers!

I had Sucaba for Thanksgiving and BCBW on tap on the 1st and thought both were very similar. The only reason I will give BCBW a slight lead is for coming in more manageable size bottles.

Bligh's kills everything. KH and Sucaba next in the same park. BCBBW I'd put with CW BBBW at 3rd of the elite. BA Bigfoot and Dude's Bane is right there too.

I'm not saying that I don't like Sucaba, because I do. That being said, I do think that it's a bit overrated. I like Leon, King Henry, MOAS, all better than Sucaba personally. We did a blind review of it here.....

Hey hey, I saw that! Nice reviews guys. I did note one thing, my taste is more similar to the guy in the middle from the above video (forget your names sorry.) He also thought The Abyss was one of the best out there (as far as imperial stouts go.) Sucaba to me is like the Abyss of the Barleywine world. More subdued than others but with exquisite balance. I have noticed bottle to bottle variation with both Sucaba and Parabola but overall they have never been bad or drastic variations. Cheers and keep up the nice reviews!

Finishing my side by side right now BCBW and '13 Sucaba, and I have to say, Sucaba is a great beer to compare with BCBW.

It's hard to chose between them though as they do different things. The nose on BCBW is so fantastic I wish the taste was exactly the same The taste has very big rich notes of caramel, slight vanilla, and is very sweet in the mouth, with a very full feeling. The barrel presence is not as heavy as say CW BBBW (which was overpowering for me), but comparing BCBW with 2013 Sucaba I would say it's a tie in different ways.

Sucaba has less sweetness, less fullness and not quite as much caramel tones in comparison to BCBW but that's good because right out of the gate it seems BCBW needs 6 months or so to calm down some the flavors are very strong and in your face, whereas with Sucaba is 8 or so months in and is drinking very smooth.

I can't complain about either of these beers and am damn grateful I can sit here and drink both of them and wouldn't pass up the chance to get more of them!

I probably shouldn't have tried BCBW after BC Stout. I am REALLY hoping that the rumors of bottles making their way to OC are true, because I would love a second crack at this beer and with a fresh palate. I have a special place in my heart for Sucaba (Abacus at the time) because it was one of the first barrel-aged beers that blew me away. I'd love the chance to do a side-by-side though.

Thanks man! Dave is in the middle on this review...but keep in mind, he knew what the beer was in this review. Pat and I did this one Blind. I LOVE the Abyss as well. I gave it a 4.75 out of 5 which isn't too shabby! Cheers man!

Well I've only had Sucaba once, on tap maybe 6 or so months ago, but I remember not being terribly impressed. It was pretty hot, and the bourbon was overpowering. I also remember feeling that it lacked depth... BCBW, on the other hand, had layers of complexity and the bourbon accentuated the beer nicely rather than dominate it. So obviously my vote would go to BCBW, but I'd like to give Sucaba another go. But as it stands right now, I'd take some Weyerbacher Insanity (another favorite BBA barleywine) any day over Sucaba.

It ruined me as well. Insanity is the closest I've had. I need some more Sucaba.

Yeah I haven't seen you guys give many 4.75's! I really like your channel on YouTube. There are some video beer reviewers that are not very entertaining and quite frankly a little annoying. You guys have a good thing going. Just the right length and you let each other speak and give your opinion without interruption or douchey remarks. I enjoyed watching The Hopry back when he was doing his thing but haven't really followed any one else since. Maybe we can setup trades in the future for something from the west coast you would like to review! I'm sure between the four of you accessibility to beers isn't an issue but let me know if I can help. Cheers!

I'm curious about the people saying BCBW blows Sucaba out of the water. Really? I haven't had BCBW and don't know if I'll get the chance, but Sucaba is a stellar beer. I know BCBW is the hot new thing on the block, but come on.

I've had them both (all). BCBW blows Sucaba (or Abacus) away!

Had my 1st BCBW, tried to hold off but couldn't resist, it's so limited. Much lighter than BCBS, a thin finish, not as viscous, I would take a simple BCBS any day here. Compared to Sucuba, don't know BC house brand is so unique, I'll settle for I like both a lot, love BCBS..
