Not sure what I would do, but I do know that that letter was badass! Cocky and classy all at once!

It's f*cking China, does it really surprise you that they're making a bootleg/unlicensed -anything-?

I'd try to keep my cool. Then, I would change the name of all of my brewery locations, and keep brewing beer.
further, I would do everything I could to ruin that Chinese guys business, even if it meant traveling there and soliciting patrons to boycott under the offense of "copying, being uncreative, and a total asshole".

Having never been to China, I have to ask: is this a common occurrence? I mean, I understand that counterfeit products of all kinds - especially things in the fashion world - are rampant in large cities here, but I don't know anything about the origins of those things. I know that Engadget used to (maybe still does) run a series called KIRF - Keepin' it Real Fake - dedicated to counterfeit tech like fake smartphones and MP3 players, but again, that comes down to a merchandise level of counterfeit. Are entire business frequently cloned like this?

That would be an extremely expensive way of going about retaliating. And what happens when the Chinese bar changes their name to match the new one that you just wasted all your money on?

There's really nothing you can do. There is a company in China that uses nothing but graphics of our equipment with their logo photo shopped on it. And they always put their ads next to ours at trade shows. They also make their equipment to look identical to ours on the outside. They can't reproduce the performance of our machines but they have no problem selling their version for a quarter of the price. China only cares about China. Patents mean nothing to them.

I like the sarcastic "Emporer" part, a nice touch. Hell, it's China. There are many million+ population cities most of us have never heard of. Aside from an overly zealous litigious approach that many would utilize- probably to no effect and big costs- I see no harm at all possible from the copy cat Chinese Brew Dog "venture". Take it as a compliment and work hard.

Its very common. There's fake apple stores and other clones of business models. It's nailed down to the uniforms. But everything looks slightly different. Thats what happens when you outsource all your stuff there.

Is this legit or just another attempt by BrewDog to gain more attention?

Have to hand it to them for their handling of this, and reasoning for that decision. It fits into their weird take on things almost to a T. Creepy, innit?

This is coming from the country that brought us Nokla phones, Adidos shoes, KLC chicken, Tids laundry detergent and Sunbucks coffee. Somehow, I don't think there's going to be a rush of people traveling to China to seek out Brew Dogs beer.

There's a car company over there that did a knock off of an entire Chevy car. They called themselves "Chery". The car was so bad it was deemed a safety problem, so it didn't take much convincing on the part of GM to shut them down.

I'm just wondering why they chose an average, overpriced brewery as the one they wanted to counterfeit. Weird.
