    Hello Texas BAs,

I just found out I'll be moving from Chicago to Dallas this summer. Excited, but don't know too much about the Texas beer scene besides Jester King and St Arnold. What do I have to look forward to??

Hope to meet some quality people over some good brews. If it helps, I'll be bringing a sh*t-ton of BCBS with me.

    Cheers,
    Matt

Lakewood and Freetail are really good. There are a few others. Hope to meet you soon, I am a few minutes north in Denton.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

I'd miss 3 Floyds, Revolution, Half Acre, Pipeworks, Chicago only BCBS beers and much much more. :slight_frown:

In Dallas you will have a lot of choices, but it just won't be like going to Binny's.

If you are going to live anywhere downtown, uptown, village area be prepared to deal with the thirty thousand dollar millionaires!

But besides that I lived in Dallas most of my life and loved it. Jester King you wont get any of the specials unless you go to the brewery in Austin. Deep Ellum, Lakewood, Community are all great choices for local Dallas brews. But yea your going to be dissapointed in the selection vs what you get in Chicago.

My favorite place to go to have a beer is Common Table on Fairmount. Great selection on tap!

What part of Summer? Summer is May through October... I'm almost not joking.

Common Table was mentioned, as far as bars Strangeways, Meddlesome Moth, Craft & Growler and Goodfriend are musts in Dallas proper. If you're moving to Dallas but outside the city limits Denton has 2 excellent spots in Oak Street and East Side Social Club. I'm completely useless on other spots outside of Dallas.

Our bottle shares are getting better and more frequent.

As far as man crushes, come hard or dont come at all.

July 1st! As summer as it gets.

Already looking forward to beers from all these places I've never heard of before. And as great as Chicago is, some people here are asshole-ish about beer. Definitely would love to do some shares with some laid-back BAs.

August and early September it's close to hell in Texas. My soon to be sister-in-law is from Chicago, she is having a very hard time adjusting.

If you find yourself around the Plano/Carrolton area, Jack Macks and Holy Grail are good beer/food spots and Lonestar Beverages is the bottle shop you want to go to.

Hello. Some of the other spots to drink not mentioned yet are LUCK and the Bottle Shop. Some of the breweries not mentioned like Martin House and Armadillo make some pretty good stuff. By the time you move here in the summer there will be at least 4 new breweries/brewpubs. Grapevine is already off and running (although not in Grapevine for now) while Reunion, Wahoo, Rabbit Hole and Braindead should be off and running by then. It's also possible Noble Rey in Oak Cliff will be up and running by then or at least close to it.

If you want to stay very well informed on all the breweries/brewpubs, places to drink, places to buy and all the other info you may need, go over to the Dallas Brew Scene website. Jordan, Matt and the rest do a fantastic job of keeping their site very updated and they have a map of everything you need. Good luck with everything, and yes you will in many ways miss Chicago, not just beerwise.

Expect accepting, cool BA's who will share great beer. And expect a lot of people to try and get you to bring Chicago beer with you hah. But as a newer member I've been welcomed and had some good times. Damn, way too nice of a post, all Dallas BA's are nerds and lame, there.

You should expect to be envious of Austin and, to a lesser extent, Houston.

Lots of good beer here, but lots that's tap only or limited to a city or area. Distribution is improving by leaps and bounds, but still lagging behind lots of places. But great people. GREAT people.

Welcome to TX, and to the SW forum!

Lakewood is definitely a local highlight, driving to Jester King in Austin and Freetail in San Antonio is definitely worth it for their releases. Expect to be envious of every other state that gets the Firestone Walker special releases and many others months/weeks before we do. We still haven't gotten Merkin, for example. Fall in love with Meddlesome Moth. Revolver and Community do great things as well. Specs will probably be your go-to liquor store unless you're willing to drive to the burbs for Lonestar, which you won't be disappointed by. Central Market is also amazing not just for food, but for their craft beer selection. They flat out don't carry BMC, which should tell you something about what they do carry.
