I'm looking to trade some Pliny for Backwoods Bastard but not sure of the value. I was thinking 2 Pliny's for a 4 pack of BB?

Sounds about right - if Pliny is $7-8, Backwoods should be about $16 a 4pk. So this is right in the ballpark $4$.

I believe Backwoods is about $15.99 per 4 pack. How much is Pliny in CA?

It's 5 bucks at the brewery and 6 bucks in stores in NorCal.

I always trade Pliny on a $4$ basis. But if your paying 8 bucks for it, I have no idea where that is.

I'd say more like 3 Pliny's. Depends on both of your respective prices, I guess.

Pliny is not easy to get outside CA, but it's not rare. For me, it's a straight $4$ (dollar for dollar) trade. When a beer is more rare or obscure, that begets a more value-based discussion.

Maybe I missed the point (maybe you were validating pricing), but the value conversation is a must between actual traders. Gotta trust who you're "doing business with" or it doesn't always work.

Also, keep in mind Backwoodsis more widely distributed than Pliny. But Pliny is always in producton while Backwoods is a limited yearly release. $7-8 is the price at Holiday Wine Cellar.

Trust me, I am sort of the Pliny Expert in these parts.

You can easily get a full 4-pack of Backwoods Bastard for one Pliny. You just have to find the right guy. Pliny is probably the best beer on the planet, don't sell yourself short here.

    Hope that helps.

You are not getting a 4pack of Backwoods for 1 Pliny. Pliny's are very easy to trade for.

It's also not even the best beer in it's category IMO.

You do have a cute cat though.

Sorry, no excuse for thinking 1 Pliny should trade for a 4 pack of Backwoods Bastard

I've sent tons of Pliny out of the state, and I agree. Just because people really want to try it, doesn't mean you get to treat it like it's super limited. If you pay 6 bucks for it, don't inflate the value because people can't get it anywhere else. That's rude as hell.

Who are you to judge how others trade beer? Get off your high horse.

AT any given point, I can go to atleast 3 or 4+ of my friends houses and drink some, and that's in Connecticut! It's not that rare.

No high horse at all. You're saying a year round $5-6 beer should trade for a once yearly released (albeit widely distributed) $16 4 pack. Doesn't make sense at all, does it? By the way, my Cali traders remark was meant to be funny since some of my favorite trading partners hail from that lovely state. Diplomatic like, huh?

Of Course it does. Pliny is a better beer. Taste is also considered in trading.

I'm going to start demanding 2 bottles of Pliny for 1 can of Heady. Just sayin'.
