What are some recommendations for stouts that are on the less sweet/syrupy side?

I'd go with Porters, ie Founders, Tallgrass, etc.

To me Old Rasputin isn't sweet, tastes amazing and is readily available. Buy that.

Beat me to it. Old Raspy is my go-to for a dry, slightly more boozy stout. Actually putting a bottle into some chili as we speak.

Rasputin is, to me, incredibly dry.

Victory Storm King isn't sweet at all. Very bitter in my opinion. I don't care for it, but the OP may love it.

To balance the sweetness of the beer I had yesterday, Founder''s Breakfast Stout, I'm drinking my go to dry stout: Magic Hat (VT) Heart of Darkness. It doesn't have the same silky mouthfeel that Founder's has but it's definitely drier.

Stone RIS is really boozy and it covers well for the sweetness.

Go for an Irish stout. those tend to be less sweet than an american stout.

Recently had the Java Imperial from Santa Fe, which you might get out in Cali. Has more of a bitter coffee profile. Loved it.

Stone IRS. Especially when aged a year or two. Or go Espresso IRS which is even less sweet than the OG IRS.

Ten Fidy is the most syrupy stout/imperial stout I've ever had.

Syrupy/thick perhaps, but I thought it was more bitter and molasses (dark sugars) tasting than sweet.
