Good morning tigers of tripels and Spartans of stout! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your snifters, nonics, and goblets today!

Gotta give malty a "shout out" for Sparty sticking it to the Buckeyes last night. MSU had it going from the first whistle and OSU...well, for another time and forum I suppose.

Weather in Central OH is cloudy and snowy. It was picturesque yesterday as we headed out to the forest in the ol' 4 wheel drive sleigh yesterday and found us a Blue Spruce worthy of adornment for this festive season. After stringing the lights and hanging the ornaments it was time for this little elf to slip into some Clown Shoes. I'm still enjoying that "new to Ohio" brewery and have to tip my hat to anyone that makes a Black Ale their flagship beer. You'll see that make an appearance here today.

Speaking of new beer...today is the day and this is the thread to share a beer that's NEW to you. Please TRY your new beer and SHARE your thoughts here. The only thing on today's holiday wish list is a GOOD description of the beer you tried. Linked reviews are great, pictures are always a crowd favorite, and any other trimmings to round out your new beer adventures today.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Cold and gray December day, Christmas on the way...

Turning up the heat with a little Crime and Punishment:
“And the more I drink the more I feel it. That's why I drink too. I try to find sympathy and feeling in drink.... I drink so that I may suffer twice as much!” Fyodor Dostoyevsky

    Crime comes before Punishment, so...

    ...

Ever eat a whole plate of super-hot hot-wings with beer? Well, for $20 you can re-capture that experience with a bottle of this hot sauce. There are more reasons not to try it than to try it, but I like that mouth-on-fire feeling, so I'm not deterred. That said, certainly not worth the price, and to re-state some of my review, the bourbon barrel aging is wasted, as are any hops or malts utilized. The heat from the chiles obliterates any nuance or complexity in the beer. It is a sheer firebomb.

Well, Punishment is slated for later, but I suspect it's going to taste exactly the same. We'll see.

Meanwhile, hoping for some good games today - pulling for the Seahawks and Denver this afternoon, while hoping the Jets, Giants, and Steelers (*weak Steeler Nation shout-out*) at least avoid embarrassment.

    Here's to new beers! Cheers!

Credit to Matt for being magnanimous in MSU's victory over OSU!
Getting ready to enjoy my first bottle of Founders Sweet Repute this afternoon while watching the Lions and Eagles. Had this on tap earlier this week and it's outstanding, in my opinion. I really would categorize this as an amped-up version of Backwoods Bastard. Yum!

Happy NBS everyone. I had trouble sleeping again last night, so a coffee stout seemed like a logical choice. And what a coffee stout! How in the hell did they pack so much cofee flavor into a barrel aged booze bomb!?! Loved this one at 1 am in a quiet house.

We'll be spending a snowy day inside playing with the little guy and baby proofing against his impending mobility. Have great day everyone!

Always wanted to try a Galaxy and Citra IPA. Pretty Things Meadowlark made my dreams come true. It's bitter and has citrus flavor, as I expected it to be. It is quite dry.

Hi everyone and Happy New Beer and Beer Style Sunday

I am just a learning machine this week on ridiculous software and even on BA applications like the bold type you see in my greeting. Anyway . . . remember my dieffenbachia? It's the plant I bought that I am trying so hard not to kill. My bamboo is fine by the way but not this plant. I have been nursing it and cursing it, playing music to it and basically asking it not to die. I have adopted a new philosophy toward plants and water and will not give this one water until it's dry as a bone. Cross your fingers. It also came to my attention that the potting soil I used might have too much fertilizer in it.

Ithaca is a kind of twilight zone/no weather zone again this year and we have had no snow. I'm not complaining and it's not that cold yet. Now you watch. It will become frigid because I said that.

On to the beer. @JackHorzempa was talking about a beer style in a thread here - it's called Grodziskie so I went and found some. I like it very much.

I hope this find you all well and drinking good beer. Happy New Beer Sunday ! And cheers :grinning:

    NEW BROWN ALE SUNDAY

    Hello all!

Very cold here in Wisconsin! I'm still trying beers from my new state. Recently, I had the pleasure of having an extraordinary beer - Raspberry Tart from New Glarus. There is hope for a great fruit beer other than from Belgium! It was VERY enjoyable! AND, I came across it in a great local butcher shop. Picked up pork loins wrapped in onion and bacon. Awesome! Had the brew for desert. I was in "heaven". I also picked up some smoked kielbasa to have later today.

Today's first selection was fine, but not what it could have been. Rocky's Revenge from Tyranena:

So, as predicted, I am back with my review of Punishment, the other half of Stone's extreme chile beer adventure.
Maybe my palate had adjusted to the heat, but this was a little better than Crime. Perhaps Double Bastard has a little more meat on its bones than Lukcy Basartd (a beer whose "clever" spelling has never amused me). A bit more malt comes through in the flavor, and the body is a little fuller as well.

Nonetheless, still a chile bomb of peppery heat. Probably not for most people.

I'm cranking up the tunes now, kick-offs imminent...

    New Biere De Garde Sunday

A snowy greetings to all NBSer's,

Today is the great enjoyment of watching NFL games played while it's snowing. We are even getting a little of the white stuff here in SCMN to go along with our very cold weather. I think I'm even starting to get used to it, and I better cuz' it's only mid Dec. and I have all of January and February to get through. Ugh!

This is a the 2nd year in a row that a local regional brewery put out a biere de garde for the holidays. I liked the one that Schell's produced last year better, but this one has its own attributes, esp. a heavier malt character that feels very winter like. Just a little too tame on the yeast characteristics. All in all good to have one around this year.

    Best to all this week.

The snow is falling and turning everything white. It felt like a good day to open my Christmas Ale that I received last year. This is quite good and I would say pick up a bottle to try this winter. It is not too sweet or spiced; plenty of malt and dark fruit with a delicious yeast. Very smooth and easy to drink and enjoy. Cheers!

Much like @Greywulfken I am venturing to the Chile Beer today. Not quite as extreme as his choices, but the Lips of Faith Collaboration between Cigar City and New Belgium is helping warm me up after some work outside in all of this frigid sleet and icy rain we are getting. This certainly is not a beer that will blow you away by any means, the chilies that they used are subtle and not overwhelming, making it very drinkable as a little bit of heat hits you in the back of the throat. Overall, not a bad ale. Might not be high on the list to go back to, but it is tasty and helped make today's dinner as it was a key ingredient in the Chili I am cooking up.

New Oak Aged Soured BSDA Sunday!

Ok I got this the other day from my favorite bottle shop. By reading the description box on this I thought it was going to be a typical X-mas spiced BSDA. That turned out to be a Belgian Strong Dark Sour Ale. I am not complaining. The fruits are present and oak, spices, yeast notes are hitting the nose well. I was a little disappointed with the flavor. I was expecting more Oak in the flavor more than the nose told me.

It is balanced nonetheless and is worthy!

    New AMERICAN IPA Sunday...

...here at a snowy Jersey Shore. The harsh weather that has affected many of you this past week has made it's way East. And it landed on top of my small slice of the globe.

Greetings and good afternoon to the NBS group. Thanks for allowing me a spot a the bar after what's been a quiet and peaceful week. Well, except that the treadmill bit the dust. Oh, well, it lasted 13-plus years. Two days down and I'm fattening up already.

Enough of this stuff, lets talk beer:http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10099/101085/?ba=NiceTaps
Not the best DFH that I've had, but I'm drinking it all. Not bad.

For the first time in I don't now how many weeks, it is Sunday and I am neither dealing with a defunct computer, out of town, working extra shifts or ill.

It's a balmy 14 degrees and sunny in Spokane, with just a little bit of a breeze, not the near-gale that had wind chills down as far as -25 for most of the weekend. At work Friday morning I had on more layers than the little brother in A Christmas Story!

In honor of EWU, who won their first playoff game this year despite playing in 9 degrees with about a -15 windchill, I went with an eastern Washington beer, a pilsener from Orlison:

Good stuff! I'll be drinking a lot more of this, especially in the summer, which seems like a dream right now!

Hello there NBSers, long time listener, first time caller. Weather is cold here in Chicago, and has been snowing for the past couple of hours. Wife is out for the afternoon, and the Bears are off until tomorrow (though one could argue they've been off for quite some time), so used the time to wrap some presents and run to the grocer for a beer-can chicken dinner. Work being done and the house being quiet, I elected to treat myself to a special treat.

Going to see how the '12 and '13 compare of everyone's favorite (punching bag/jumped the shark/still producing great beers) GI BCS.

Starting with the 2013, man this is a good beer. Heavy bourbon on the nose and almost no head. This is a great beer with a little bit of a burn on the way down. Definite malt sweetness and no discernible bitterness, this is an absolute winner for me.

Moving on to the '12, you find it much smoother on the nose. Considerable less of a boozy smell, though for me, that isn't necessarily a good thing. The sweetness seems to have mellowed out a bit, and you detect much more bitterness on the end.

Quite a difference a year makes, but for me, I'm going to declare the 2013 the winner. Of course, that leaves me with 24 oz of sweet, sweet BCS to drink (and a quiet house), so I think we can all agree, the real winner is me.

New American Farmhouse Ale Sunday (week 459)

Greetings NBS'ers from a chilly, soon to be snowing, Mid Hud Val NY. A frigid morning at the recycle center, followed by the rarity of watching the Jets put points on the board and win a game. Enjoying my second offering from Prairie and these guys really have the Farmhouse style mastered. Definitely one I recommend to all. With the pending legalities reaching a long awaited climax tomorrow, the song I am listening to sums it all up for me. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

A second new one for me today. This is a really great, fresh hopped ale. Terrapin's So Fresh & So Green, Green. Very tasty, and drinkable. A good citrus burst from all of the fresh hops. Will definitely be going back to this one again.
