    Good Morning BA

Drinking a local IPA this morning and it is bloody good! Anyone traveling to SA has to get a hold of a bottle or two!

Time to test two classics against one another. It will be the first time I'm having the Sinebrychoff Porter since it was released in stores here this month. Carnegie on the other hand is an old standby but I figured I would compare the two. The differences are of course rather stark, with Carnegie Porter being bottom fermented and 5.5% abv, whilst Sinebrychoff Porter is top fermented and 7,2% abv. But nevertheless it will be interesting to try them both.

The Sinebrychoff Porter pours a noticably thicker beer and the resulting head is much creamier and sturdy compared to that of Carnegie. The nose of both beers are similar, not increadibly intense, but with a noticable roasted and sweet mixture of aromas. The initial taste is rich and roasty with some sweetness, but the aftertaste is very dry with a good strong bitterness (helped by the roastiness of the malt I bet). What strikes me is that the underlying taste is quite similar between the two beers, only Sinebrychoff is fuller bodied and amped up a bit.

Despite Sinebrychoff being top-fermented it doesn't have a strong identifiable yeast profile or estery notes (at least not to my taste), the taste is more about the malt and the bitter hops (these two beers are all about the bitterness as far as hop flavor is concerned), same as with Carnegie and I would describe both beers as being clean tasting. I think Sinebrychoff is the better of the two, or the tastiest of the two. Carnegie I think is a victim of both legislative interference and a certain degree of neglect/indifference from the current owners. The maxium alcohol in beer was capped at 5.6% from 1955 to 1995 and explains the 5.5% abv of the current iteration of Carnegie porter, whilst the porter brewed by Carnegie back in the 19th century was 7% and above as well as being top-fermented, similar to Sinebrychoff Porter. I really think that Carlsberg Sweden should dig up an old recipe for Carnegie and bring it back to it's roots, I think such a beer would fare quite well in the current climate of beer drinking in Sweden.

Started prepping early for Cowboys vs Bears. Living in Illinois this is a
big game for me ... and after yesterdays snowfall this beer seemed
fitting to start it off. Cheers all and happy Monday BA !

Old label since the one picture of the new label looked like shitty quality. Anyway, wow. Seriously... every bit as good as I thought it would be. DAMN. Wish I bought more.

4.21/5 ... nice to have a beer that seems like it'd be a novelty turn out to be a gem. Excellent beer.
