Why does my Dark Lord 2012 taste like green apples?

This can't be, US brewers are the best in the world and never make beer with obvious faults. #pushingtheboundries

Sigh... I don't know what's more annoying, people who will defend Dark Lord to the death or people who love getting their little jabs in about how "awful" of a beer it is.

Dark Lord: The most loved and hated beer in the world.

Fair enough. I just completed a 3 yr DL vertical, so we will see:slight_smile: I've never actually tried it. I still have 3 2012 Hunah and 1 2011 Hunah left though.

As other people have said, I certainly don't think so. Putting aside the whole everyone happy blah blah stuff people say, Huna is a more highly rated beer with a far lower bottle count and a similar style release. My personal opinion is that it is a far better beer, but that is obviously subjective. DL is not a bad beer IMO, Huna is just a particularly good beer.

I had one the night of DL and no apple notes. It did have a smell of elmers glue though. I hope age will get rid of that.

When did you have the '08 Dark Lord? Do you have the whole vertical, back to...what...04? Earlier? I'm a Dark Lord n00b and don't know my stuff. Just like I'm a FFF barleywine n00b. So n00b.

Speaking of "keeping it reals, yo," have you ever had brownies made with Dark Lord? Green apple or not, that sounds kind of amazing. Don't you think?

If I had 3 2012 Huna I might actually open one...

wow. despite my cynical comment (gosh, was it only yesterday?) that people don't trash beer they have to trade, i count several dld attendees saying this.

i don't know what sort of game you all are playing here, but it's upsetting my non-faith in humanity.

Yumm, I'd like to try one super fresh but I only have one. So it will have to wait a bit...

Aside from bottle count, taste, rating and all that crap, IMHO a beer's relative value is directly connected to whether you've already had it.

I really does live up to the reputation. Me and some friends are going to probably open our DL vert, so I'll report back on the 2012 if I taste anything funny.

Had some '12 Dark Lord two nights ago. No off flavors at all.

100% agree. I might end up unltimately 'regretting' the trade, but I won't know until I drink them.
