I just had my first Three Floyds Gumballhead an hour ago, and it is my favorite wheat ale now. Love the citrus notes and fresh wheat flavor.

Weihenstephaner Hefe. Drinking their Vitus right now, my store just got it in and I haven't had it in ages. Forgot how good it was. Also Franziskaner and Flying Dog In Heat Wheat.

GumballHead is a terrific brew, I'd love to be able to bring a case to the beach.

for some reason they don't call it a wheat beer, they call it a white IPA, but i'm sure if there was an actual qualification for being a wheat beer, this would fulfill it, Sierra nevada white Ipa is really good. it's has all the characteristics of a high quality wheat beer, but also has a nice, subtle hoppy bite that distinguishes it in this less-then-respected category.

I've been talking smack on here about Weihenstephaner recently but having found some fresh bottles at the weekend I take it all back. However, I can't help thinking there must be some better stuff out there, especially in Germany, that doesn't get exported.

Interesting. I feel like there using the term very liberally. But that hapens all the time, when there are no specific qualifications to define styles

I agree with you, but it is what it is, The same with Gumballhead when all is said and done they are by definition wheat beers.
