Yesterday, I had a Blue Hills Wompatuck wheat beer that may have been 2 years old and it was the most delicious sour apple funky light concoction I've had in a long time. It was definitely infected with some unintended critters that did their magic to make this beer taste like an outstanding berliner weisse. I've even read some bad reviews of the womptatuck from confused consumers(I was confused too) who described the same funky beer that i had, but did not enjoy it like I did.

Anyone have a story of a beer that clearly had become something the brewer had not intended, but you loved it?

Peruvian Morning actually got pretty interesting after a while. Not as good as the real stuff without infection, but still good.

I thought the infected Ebony and Oak bottle I had was much much better than the non-infected kegs of it.

abyss 2009 was infected, probably the first well distributed infected beer I had heard of. And it was amazing. Took second place in a private stout tasting I organized, behind Sierra Nevada 30th Anniv stout.

The least infected Cup a Joe I had was pretty good (others were pretty much undrinkable), but for me 2009 Abyss with beginning stages tasted even better than the purposely infected Tart of Darkness.

But the King of the Hill for me was sour Figgy Pudding, actually more tasty than uninfected, IMHO.

I had a local Belgian wit a few years ago that had gotten a lacto infection an turned into a delicious Berlinerweiss!

The accidentally-bretted version of Boulevard's imperial stout was really tasty, and the accidentally-bretted version of Block 15's Figgy Pudding is one of the best old ales I've ever had.

I had a swingtop Hooker Liberator that went wrong. Drank it as it had become pleasantly sour...I wonder how much time it took off the back end of my life, though.

Hah... yeah I remember the commotion 2009 Abyss made on the boards...

Infected 2009 Abyss is excellent, and I would love to get some more.

Not sure if it was actually infected, but 2011 Barrel-Aged Yeti was quite winey and tart. Not was I was expecting but quite delicious

Liked a 2011 Odell's bourbon stout. Totally sour.

Loved an infected barleywine 2011 old ruffian. The soured yeast brought out a world of fruit.

So a beer that's infected may actually improve in taste?

Tart Side of the Moon was pretty amazing. That was a mistake that they just went with.

Definitely. At least if it's a style that works well with it, such as a wit. Infected stouts and things like that usually just turn to shit.

GI's Dominique (sic?) was an accident according to Brett. They tried to replicate but were unsuccessful. I thought it was fantastic.
