C&G has 32 ounce growler fills for 9.99 or 64 ounces for 18.99

He was quoting the Big Lebowski, not being a dick, in case you missed it.

I do agree on Rahr however. I don't care for any of their beers but their brewery is fun. I tried the BBWW at C&G hoping I'd like it but negatory Ghost Rider. Didn't care for it. There's a flavor common to all their beers that I hate. I don't know what it is but every beer of theirs has this distinct flavor at the end that I hate. I haven't found a Rahr beer yet that I didn't detect it. Eh, to each their own.

No, I understand the source of the quote. It's one of the stupidest things repeated on the internet. Obviously one knows when one is posting one's opinion. It was meant dismissively in the movie and it's meant dismissively on the intertubes. It isn't nearly as clever as people repeating it think it is.

It would be like responding to threads on this site with, "It's just, like, beer."

Sounds like a test of consumer supply and demand in its purest form. If it's sold out every single year at $8.99, perhaps retailers are testing the waters to see what pricepoint will stick.

At least it seems like a retailer thing. Since Hall's is charging $10.99, obviously the beer costs less than that at wholesale. Since everyone's price has gone up on this though, it would make sense that the beer also went up in cost. Probably not as significantly as the retail prices are indicating, but if the price is too high, vote with your wallet and it will come down. Retailers don't like to sit on inventory. I suspect at $15.99, Rahr BBAWW will sit on shelves much longer than it ever has in the past, but that's merely speculation on my part.

Might also be a distributor thing. According to E1G, their profit on this is smaller this year.

I suspect the pricing went up to some degree at all levels. I don't have enough information to gauge where it comes from completely though, just good guesses. Probably started with increased costs at the brewery (higher cost for barrels) and escalated from there. Still, to go from $8.99 or so at most places to $15.99 seems absurd. If one retailer is selling it for $10.99 and (theoretically) making a profit, it would stand to reason it's mostly retailer markup.

There is a huge discount on BigFoot right now because BEK is stuck with last years. Anyone could sell it super cheap if they wanted.

So a local brewery is making a beer that's easily 90+ points, semi-available to all their local supporters. They go out of their way to procure, store and make a beer that is extremely time consuming and volatile... keep it the same price for year after year while all of you go running out dropping $23 bucks on 4 packs of Anheuser Busch faux craft garbage under one of the sellout breweries names they own... Grow up kids... Every brewery in the country is trying to make a bourbon aged "something" the price of good whiskey barrel has gone way up and so has the demand for the beers aged in them.

Picked up 1 at Whole Foods Downtown. Was marked $9.99 as the price above... but rang up $14.99. They adjusted it, but looking at the tag, they accidentally used the one for WW 6-packs. Whoops.

I wouldn't pay more than $10 for BBWW. Nice beer, but that's it.

I wont buy it just on the assumption its from the samw winter warmer batch as the 5 pack( 1 was excellent) that was horribly infected by lactose.

Nah. There are a ton of people in Ft. Worth that are very loyal to Rahr....... and they have never heard of Beer Advocate.

You'd be surprised... the big thing is the rating though. My dad will not buy any beer rated under a 90 on this site. He stands there on his phone checking. I see this a lot.

    "It's an 88? Pass!"

I'd go ahead and pop this tomorrow... but I got a growler of Sputnik waiting for me at home, so it's gonna have'ta wait!

Pretty sure this ain't no BA 12 Dogs of Christmas though (at least it hasn't been the last 2 years)

Just wanted to clarify one point. Lactose is one of the sugars in milk (not a bacteria, and wouldn't taste like infection) and lactobacillus is a bacteria which could produce sharp or tart flavors. Are you talking about lactobacillus?

For what it's worth, I've drank Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer every year since... 2009? and I've never had one that's infected, so I suspect that was a pretty isolated issue you encountered. Probably worth giving it another shot. That being said, I can understand anyone's hesitation to spend $16 on a bomber of beer. That's a steep price for any beer.
