DHbiker0889 and I set up a trade about a week ago. I sent him a Good Gourd Almighty and a 6-pck of Jai Alai, as well as 9 or 10 extras and he hasn't responded to me in a week. I was supposed to get a Swinging harry tropical quad along with the rest of the "nice box" he put together for me, which apparently was going to include a Rumpkin (was pretty excited about that). The last I heard from him, he told me he was going to send me my tracking number when he got off of work. I've tried to message him since then to acquire the tracking number but he has been unresponsive, despite the fact that he has logged in multiple times since then. I can post the convo but I think my little summary did a good job of explaining what is going on. I'm confused because he has good trading references; DHbiker0889, the grinch who stole christmas.

Has he read your conversation? Just curious, if he hasn't then there is still hope that he is just terrible at communicating and following up on the trade and not actively screwing people.

I'm sorry but if you log into BA (which he has), know you have an active trade and completely ignore the bright red notification under your Inbox, I don't want to trade with you. That's terrible communication, or really the lack thereof. It takes, literally, 3 seconds to click and open that message.

I agree, I wouldn't trade with him either, but there is a range of bad traders, if it is just terrible communication then the OP may still get his beer.

It's telling how seldom the alleged perpetrators speak up in threads like this.

Listen I'm as nervous as anyone about trades but outing someone after a week seems pretty quick. Especially around the holidays where everything is slow and people lives are crazy. Is there a chance you got taken? Yes.... Is there a chance that hes just slow? Yes.... I think a week is not enough time before you start posting names and accusations though.

    Thats just my opinion though.

    That is all true.

However, we all know that communication is just as important as proper packing, or any other aspect of the trade. If you have the time to log in here, you have the time to respond to the red shit at the top of your page, especially those involving active trades. Its disrespectful. Im personally grateful for people that make these threads, I doubt im the only one that refuse to trade with people like this, regardless of what beer they have I might want.

Edit: People always link alewatchers blog, its a great tool, with tons of useful info. Not that its the be all / end all, if you follow it to a T, you will have no problems!

"In my opinion, there is no such thing as "too much communication." Some people may indicate that only 3 messages are needed to make a trade: well I disagree. This is the MINIMUM level of communication--
A few messages to set up the terms of the trade (however many it takes)
Another message to recap the trade and swap addresses (lots of beers may have been mentioned in negotiations, a quick recap "I send this, you send this" clears up a lot)
Another message with a tracking number and shipping info
And finally a message upon receipt of the package."

I do feel that I could have waited a bit longer before posting this but there are other things that I'm worried about and I have brought that to light in our conversation. First off, in my neighborhood there have been a slew of robberies, packages stolen from doorsteps and cars broken into (including mine) since this great holiday season has started; not to mention that I'll be moving in 2 weeks. I thought this trade would go seemlessly as have all my others but when you tell someone that you are going to shoot a message with the tracking # when you get home from work after you've received your end of the deal and then you don't and you don't say anything to me for a week? I don't know, maybe he's a bad communicator but he's logged in everyday since then; you would think he would have said something by now. Maybe I'm just too good with my communication. Everyone knows it sucks to be left in the dark in a conversation; it's just simple to hit reply and type "I'm busy and I'll be in touch" or just to send me the effin' tracking number >_<

How does one know if the conversation has been read?

Go to the Conversation. On right side of the page it will list the Conversation Participants. Below each person in the conversation it indicates when they last read the conversation.

He has not read any of the conversation since December 11th, I feel like an ass and maybe it's not gone to shit yet but he got my package last Wednesday. I guess my other trades have just been so seamless that that is what I've come accustomed to. I would at the very least expect a message that said that everything made it safely, ya know?

    You did the right thing.

It drives some of us crazy that people post "Hey, six months ago so-and-so didn't send me his end of the trade, so I suppose I should mention it someplace."

If you go radio silent after (a) receiving a package, (b) not bothering to send a tracking number, & (c) logging in & not bothering to respond, if you get called out, you've asked for it. He sounds like a bad-trader-in-training to me.

    Paging dhbiker0889 to explain himself.

He should've seen the inbox notification of unread messages and should've seen/read your messages. It's also not unreasonable to have the tracking info sent to you voluntarily. Moreover, if package was received, it's usually a courtesy to let the sender know. It's been a week.

For shipping purposes, I ask for the trading partner's phone number. I have the option to use that number to contact the partner if private messages fail.

Anyway, just in case someone has not point this thread out to him, @dhbiker0889 , please address.

He did send me a number and I sent him a discrete text and then gave him a phone call a couple days later; not to mention I've sent him like 5 messages that he hasn't read, hoping this just needs more time. A week honestly seemed like more than enough time to me and if there is a problem then it would be nice to know.

In that case, you did all that a reasonable person could. Chances are he saw the messages, but didn't open them because he knows what it would be about, so the last read date never changed. I hope it will still work out, but I personally won't risk trading with this person in the future.

I never attempted to turn my email notifications back on, but I used to get an email with the message in it. He may have read it through his email. Either way, he should at least give you the courtesy of a reply since he has been on the site.

While setting up the trade, I always offer up my phone number and secondary e-mail address. To me, it is just a common courtesy to give this to my trade partner. This way, if something is not right, all possible avenues of communication are available. If I am at work or out, I can respond ASAP. If your preferred method of shipper offers an app, I recommend downloading it to your phone as well. There is no such thing as too many beer mails in a trade; they establish trust and confidence. Hopefully, this is a misunderstanding, and all will be well with your trade.

A week is more than enough time. He got your box last week and has logged on here several times with zero communication. That's wrong.
