Does anyone out there purposely buy bad (low-rated) craft beer just to see what it's like or to see how bad it actually is? Obviously, I don't mean bad BMC offerings - They aren't craft and I assume everyone hear mostly knows what they taste like.

    I just bought this: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16836/41127

PIZZA BEER! Luckily I only paid $2 for it, so I don't feel bad.

I do this with stuff like candy or potato chips but not beer. I don't have time to try the bad ones I'm behind on the good ones!

Just because a beer is low rated does not mean it is bad.

Idea for a pizza beer: smoked malt, wheat malt, flavored with Italian herbs and especially dank hops (I mean the weed, garlic, and onion like hops)

I did, however, go on a cheap piss-water/malt liquor kick several months back.

I bought Voodoo Maple Bacon solely because of how awful everyone said it was. I just felt like I had to try it.

Picking up beers that you know will be incredible bad is fun esp.! for tastings.
I sometimes pick up something pretty bizarre for a big tasting just to see what people will say about it.
Like once I got a 24 % ABV BIPA from Fance for a tasting. I thought that it was not bad at all but I was alone.
I sometimes pick some pale lagers for tick’s that I know won’t be any good but I do this rarely.
I also pick up a lot of stuff that I don’t have high hopes for, I always give it a fair chance like every beer.

Just because a beer has a low rating does not mean you will hate it.

No. I tend to only look at ratings if it's a beer I've never heard of, and from a brewer I'm not very familiar with. If the rating is anything below the 70-75 range, I usually pass.

That's not to say that a lower rating means I won't like the beer, but several hundred or several thousand reviewers probably aren't wrong.

I am not dissuaded by an 80 rating, yet 79 I am. Dumb head

While your statement is literally true, in general the lower the average rating the greater the odds that the beer deserves its low rating. With over 90K beers in the database I don't mind missing out on one or two good ones in exchange for not spending money on several bad ones (low rated ones).

I recently bought a case of Carling and a case of Fosters for my wife's birthday party. As soon as I got home I had a shower.

When I see beer that is insanely cheap, I have to try it just to see how bad it is. Most recent example: $2.79 for a six pack of Minhas Mountain Crest from Woodman's. It really wasn't that terrible. Better than Sconnie, one of their other brews.

Yes, I do. If I've heard epically awful things about a beer, it becomes as much a must try for me as anything else out there. I've been doing a beer blog for a few years now, and I think it can be more fun writing about the bad beers than the good ones (even if they're not more fun to taste). I try to mix things up to keep it interesting. Best trade I ever made was for a 97 Triple Bock. It did not disappoint. Neither did Pizza Beer, by the way.
