I was invited to an exclusive scotch tasting event, and the host is apparently a big sour fan. As a gift, I'm going to bring him a Bruery sour as supposedly he's never even heard of our friends in Placentia. If you were going to be gifted a sour, would you be happiest with a Bottleworks XII, a Wanderer, or a Melange #1?
I think if a pucker face is what your looking for the wanderer would be the best choice of those 3 you listed. Not on the list but really delightful and easy to obtain is the rueuze. These are just my choices. If he like sours I'd definitely not go with melange1.
Melange #1. Then grill him a steak, top it with bruschetta, and shove it in his face. He'll thank you later. Oh, and give him a straw for the Melange. Thats how youre supposed to drink it. Proper straw-ware.
Give him a beer you don't have and haven't listed here. The beers you don't have are better and more rare than the ones you do, and he'll like them more.
of all the sours released this year id say my favorite was Griffon Brux, but for the more atainable ones easily Cherry Oude tart was my favorite. Off the list id go wanderer, melange #1, than bw XII but it also depends on what type of sour fan he is as Rueze is anotehr good choice of Gueuze fans. If he likes fruit forward Kumkat and the blueberry sours were great
Strong disagreement, better than The Wanderer, not the others. Melange #1 is an easy choice, it's delicious and incredibly vinous. Plus, fancy wax. I love Bottleworks XII, and it's been a hit at tastings, but it definitely doesn't carry quite the complexity. I wasn't wowed by my taste of The Wanderer this year. My immediate thought was I'd take M#1 or either of the Oude Tart releases over it at any given opportunity.
