Nerds that sleep on the street or in their cars to be first in line or hoard a beer that is hard to get, or those that drive on the lawns of nearby residents or park in resident only spots are ruining craft beer. I nearly came to blows with a guy at Hill Farmstead that wouldn't shut up about the 10 cases of Heady he had in his car and the fact that this was his 3rd time through the HF growler line that day. Trade bait, bro!

    Just fucking enjoy it!!!!

"Unfortunately, as beer snobs are blanketed under the term beer nerds, there are some that believe taste is not subjective and that there is a right or wrong. Manzo feels that these “snobs” exist, “mostly on the internet, primarily on Beer Advocate. It’s kind of like Yelp and these people can really affect someone’s business anonymously.” Here, hidden behind clever usernames, many beer nerds criticize certain beers because they don’t appreciate them. These reviews may deter people from trying them in the first place, as well as bars from carrying the product."

What a load of shit. Nobody here has a clever user name.

As a long-time coffee nerd I can say the same things were said about coffee lovers...trust me, every magazine needs material to stimulate readership. Lighten up and enjoy your brews (coffee and beer!)

I don't get the concern. Buy your beer, drink it and enjoy life. Quite wasting your brain power on what other people are doing/buying/drinking.

If you are scared to order something because of what someone else might think of you, you have bigger problems, I had to buy quite a few craft beers before I found my palate, I'm not ashamed to say that when I started I knew nothing, learning is the fun part

I hear more people complain about "nerds," "snobs," "walezbro," "undeserved hype" and whatnot than I actually see examples of it.

Scared and intimidated are two very different things. obviously people know there is nothing to fear, but it it just isnt fun to feel inadequate or like an outsider to many.I am with you and dont really care. I will drink wine from a dixie cup....dont need to impress anyone, but everyone is different.

When pour-over coffees took off and it then took 10 minutes to get a coffee in the morning, I declared that coffee nerds ruined coffee.

Oops!! I didn't see it on account of the type being tiny and light grey on a white background.

Still not much substance in that article.

I certainly think I'm welcoming it to newcomers. My dad is starting to enjoy the beers I bring over and I gave him a nice snifter glass. He's a newcomer and it makes me happy he enjoys this. Something for us to do and talk about.

Only if you would contend that Red Sox and Yankee fans have ruined baseball. I think not, even though I am neither. It will be the professional executives will ruin craft beer.

I dunno, I'm a relative newcomer to craft beer and you guys haven't been asses. *shrug*

One writer's insecurity I guess. Like the wimpy guy who goes to the gym then comes home and rages that all weightlifters are on steroids.

Maybe he should consider, perhaps, that people only put all that effort into categorizing and analyzing beer because they really enjoy drinking it?

    He sucks at math, too.

But I don't want to be misunderstood here and be confused with a "math nerd", so let me confess that at one time, I knew nothing of addition or subtraction.:grinning:

The only time I would ever offer unsolicited advise to someone in person about beer would be a friend, family member, or good acquaintance. The notion that good beer lovers burden regular beer drinkers with judgement is over hyped. Sure some people will try to get others to drink what their drinking.. but hasn't that always been going on with any alcoholic beverage?
