My friend Brenda is new to trading but she's got the bug and asked me to post up what a Grey Monday would net her in trade value.

Post up if you have some ideas.

Your friend Brenda should create a profile and use her probationary period (and then some) to peruse the trade forums, getting a sense for how beers (including hers) are valued and proper trade etiquette.

Brenda should also read this very thoroughly before her first trade:

There's no way to answer your question directly because it's too vague. There are thousands of beers over a wide variety of styles. Plus, the way it's worded makes it appear that you are soliciting offers for her. That would definitely be in violation of this forum's rules which are outlined here:

In short, if she really wants to begin trading beer, she is best served doing some preparatory work versus asking for a bottle to be appraised.

Im going to take the opposite approach of the above. Probably a proprietors 1:1.

If she had 2 more bottles, could probably get a box full of Bourbon County stuff (or maybe not)

$40 worth of beer in similar demand/rarity or...
$40 worth of beer that she really enjoys drinking or...
New friendship and good time with beer lovers at a bottle share event...

OK I'll send her this thread and let her do with it what she will. I am not soliciting a trade for her, merely trying to figure out what she can get. I bet she'd be down with a proprietor's but like I said, I'm not soliciting a trade here.

I've never understood this - this isn't directed at you per se, but why don't these people do any of the legwork themselves?

If you have friends, maybe you'd understand? Maybe his friend is hot?

J/K of course. Nothing wrong with helping friends out with some info at all. Unless otherwise proven, I give the OP the benefit of the doubt of simple fact finding.

Like you never tried to impress the ladies by doing otherwise pointless work and/or taking far leaps to get involved with their every day mundane life, including being that super hero that helps her auction off that oh so rare beer.

Seriously, we should just assume that by "my friend" he means himself.

I do not mean myself. I wish I had a bottle of Grey Monday.

I tried offering a guy I know on Facebook in the Hoarders Society a lab quality stir plate with a few stir bars, a 1000 mL Pyrex Erlenmeyer Flask, a 2000 mL one, a laboratory grade hydrometer and Pyrex ungraduated cylinder for two Grey Mondays and 2 Chocolate Rains and he turned me down. Not smart on his behalf as he will learn the hard way how bad homebrew stir plates work.

Or maybe he isn't interested in making meth?

He wants to homebrew. These items wouldn't be helpful in methamphetamine production.

Now a Soxhlet extractor on the other hand...

I'll toss in an old winebago to get this done.

Every homebrew operation needs a 'crystal ship'.
