I'm just wondering from fellow BA's perspective is King Henry one of those beers that is almost impossible to get? It sounds like a dream come true but I haven't been able to acquire some of the main beers it trades for. Is it worth getting a lot of other rare beers to trade for it? Right now I feel like I would do anything for this beast of a beer and just wondering should I continue the fight? Thanks for the advice!

I tasted it for the first time this year and we'll I am a newbie at this so my judgement is flawed. I thought it was a bit boozy but very delicious. I think it can be worth what people want for it since I hear it gets better with age.

Personally it's the only Bourbon County Brand I care to seek out, but I much prefer barleywines (and BA versions) to stouts. Although, as a huge fan of rye, I'm a little excited to try the Propriators

It's been my impression that it's fairly tough but not impossible to get.

I had it at a tasting last year, about 4 ounces, and can easily say it is my favorite. When I check my reviews it is rated with the highest score I've given. Not only does it have immense complexity but the flavors are so lush and robust. I'm a sucker for chocolate caramel toffee maple and other dessert qualities so it is a personal taste. So to answer your question I believe it is in your best interest to spend heavily if you can find it.

It's not impossible to get. I just traded a props for one. U just need some brews of equal trade or some good quantity stuff or some good trading partners.

I found a guy who's being perhaps too reasonable in trading his. Honestly surprised how easy it will be for me to get this. My first whale!

Back in November of 2011 I had a chance to buy a case. I only got four, but usually have had decent beer karma since. I drank one fresh and one last winter. It is incredible stuff.

It definitely sounds life changing. It seems like the pinnacle if all beers.

dude, while king henry is a nice beer, others are just as good and depending on your palate, you might think they're better

try trading for some alpine great, get sucaba when it comes out, bourbon county barleywine was nice etc...

Wait for the fine tune version of KH, with RARE on the horizon, cant be too long....I dont how much better it can get, but Brett Porter mention it at a beer event....KH is badass b
I see you got a CBS, that might get you closer to KH or at least a Proprietors

When it came out we had a 100% blind barleywine tasting with King Henry & a bunch of big hitters. It wasn't even close. There was Henry, a monstrous gap, then a bunch of other beers that were 'meh' that I'd previously loved.

That said, it's getting older. A few folks recently said it's sliding, but hey, if you want it, go after it.

If they recreate it I'm interested to see how it compares. The regular bcbs got better maybe the new batch will be too?

Just get the bourbon county Barleywine. It's better now than Henry is.

Disagree. We opened up KH, BBBW and Sucaba together a few weeks back and it was still not even close. BBBW was closer to Sucaba than any of them were to KH.

It's still very good, but there is bottle variation now. Always happens with an older beer. Some bottles have been meh, other have been just as good as I remember it to be. Just trade with someone who properly stores beer and you'll be good.
