I don't start many threads and it seems most around here end up shit on anyways, but I felt the need to share this.

I've got a friend who I've traded once on here, and I'll admit, I"m a bit new at trading on here, but have done a handful and had a blast with it, and everyone was happy.

I just got home from a really long day of work after the holidays, and came home to an empty house due to my wife and kids going to see family while I had to work.

There was a box.. A box full of beer I would find out that had great stuff like BCBW, headhunter, flower power and pliny, and a bunch of awesome locals from a past trade.. Holy shit!

This is what beer advocacy is about. Sharing, enjoying and bringing the fun to beer. Chasing beer, showing off the whales is pretty fun, but really, when you trade, or have a bottle share, or encourage a BMC drinker to try something new and they enjoy it, its so much more fun.

If you are on the fence about trading, do it. Do locals, or $4$. It's more fun IMO, and instead of chasing, share what you have with someone even when we all lose perspective on our own "shelf turds", they can be gold to others who appreciate a good beer and a perk up during the day/week.

So happy holidays, and Cheer my friends.. and if you need a name of a fellow who knows the true spirit of BA, shoot me a BM!! hah!

Right on, brother! I'm not rolling in the dough by any stretch of the phase, but I love to share the best of the best with anyone that I think will appreciate it. It's all about spreading the beer love  Cheers!

Been a tough year for me in many ways, laid off in May, got lyme disease, lost my Mom, marriage breaking up, but some folks, who shall remain nameless (unless by BM as OP is doing) have sent me boxes of happiness that have absolutely knocked me over with their astounding generosity. The enjoyment I got drinking these beers from around the country really did make me feel so much better.

We have a community of wonderful generosity, though it might not seem it from how we discuss things in the forums here and elsewhere. Beer Advocacy is alive and well my friends. Wishing y'all the best in the year(s) to come. Here's to Beer Advocacy. Cheers!

Since I started discovering the world of craft beer a few months ago, BA to me has been trying to expand BMC drinkers' minds and raise awareness of the many, many different craft offerings available.
In my experience, big beer marketing has succeeded in brainwashing the masses so tragically that they only know BMC exists. I enjoy letting people know in the least obnoxious, snobby way that there is more to beer than Bud Light. Cheers, BAs!

May not be sending you a box, but in its place sending you best wishes and much success in your current ventures in the coming year. If you ever make it down to this area, I'll have some homebrewed German styles waiting for you. Prost, and Happy New Year!

I have always hated the term "Shelf Turd".... A shelf turd is just a whale everyone in that area can get IMO.... If Moon Man, Two Hearted, Belgian Red, Rasberry Tart, Lagunitas Sucks, Dales, Central Waters Barrel beers and NG Thumprints are shelf turds.... Then I must be a Turd Addict!

I'm not too sure how to respond, but I guess I'll start by saying that I agree wholeheartedly. I don't really trade too often cuz it can definitely get expensive, but I enjoy it every time. And although this site can get pretty heavily weighed down with bullshit quite regularly, it's threads like these that bring me back. Happy new year everybody.

Sorry bro, you're wrong. Beer advocacy is about posting snarky comments on a message board, arguing about meaningless stuff, and wasting alot of time while we should be doing something more productive.

Is your beer Santa from Chicago? I've got a trade partner from there that hooked me up like crazy and it was a complete Christmas surprise. I met my guy on reddit but I'm curious if it's the same person. If your guy is from Chicago then pm me his user name (if you don't mind). My Christmas beer box also made my day so I know how you felt :-)

This being my first year (almost) on ba, I've learned a lot from reading and engaging in conversations on threads and bm's with lots of people. Despite the inevitable snarky comments and threadsh*tting I've learned that there are lots of great BA's out there.

This year I was fortunate enough to have a random guy offer, and follow through in sending me a box with 3 different vintages of Kbs because I hadn't had it before. Didn't want anything in return, just to let him know how I enjoyed them.

Another great guy in ohio responded to a regional post about what I should have my sister seek out in ohio to bring me when she came back. Not only did he help but he and another BA put together an awesome box with some of my wants and other excellent ohio goodies, met up with my sister so she could bring them back to me and met up with her again so I could return the favor with a box from my end.

Just recently I set up an ip trade and the guy met me more than half way to make the trade, but also extra'd me a bourbon barrel plead the 5th because he knew I hadn't tried it yet from our conversations before the meeting.

This stuff is what beer advocacy is all about, and all of the other stories of trading and sharing gerosity that I've read from others in these forums. I hope to start a little more trading, and when I do I'm going to make sure that I pay forward all the generosity that I've been shown since I joined this community.

Prost, na zdrowie, slainte, salud, and cheers to everyone.

Yeah, I've been on this site for years, (with a long hiatus), but recently had 2 offers to "just send" me something. They didn't start this offer as a way of working up a trade. They just saw a comment I had made, and offered to send me some "hoppy goodness." Well I insisted on getting info to send something back. (still haven't, but am this week). But just sooooo cool.
So a certain somebody in Jersey is getting something in about a week.....Sorry it took so long.

The ratio of great people to dickheads on this site is fantastic. I enjoy the opportunity to raise a glass with you.

I recently had someone BM me out of the blue and ask for my address. They wanted to send me something. 3 days later a bottle of Black Tuesday shows up at my door. And that is not an isolated incident, only the latest.
To those that enjoy extending such generosity I say "Cheers!!!!!!"
To those on the receiving end of such generosity, I suggest you should beer it forward.

A very generous BA BM me and sent me a Hunahpu when he saw that I posted I had never had it before. I will be forever grateful. Although he specifically said nothing was needed in return I wanted to reciprocate and did. I share frequently with friends, co-workers, and employees at my local beer store but I am still amazed that he out of the blue provided me, a complete stranger, with a huge want of mine. I have never traded before but would love to start after seeing how happy I was to receive my box from him. I am amazed almost daily by the generosity of the BA community. I feel that I know some of you even though I have never met you. I encourage everyone to continue to pass the beer karma along.

    ^^^^ Totally agree!

I've also had the tables turned on myself after finding some things on my shelf that were "way past their prime" and turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable experience!
