So my dad and I were at Pizza Boy last month. We were trekking across the state from Pittsburgh to Philly as I had interviews in both cities. I told him, we must stop there and he fully obliged.

Wow I was impressed! Looking at the beers listings were like looking at the flight listings in the airport. Too many to pick from. I tried two different Pizza Boy sours (Turkey Burglar and Raspberry Sour) which I enjoyed. My dad had the Flaceplant Double IPA. Plus the food was decent IMO.

I also have to add that I have a profound hearing loss and wear behind-the-ear hearing aids. When I approched a staff asking about a glass I might like to buy, he just gave it to me with no charge and SIGNED "thank you" in American Sign Language! I was most impressed. It's those small things that leaves me remembering the awesomeness of a place.

The next day, my dad and I went to the Civil War Museum in Harrisburg (it was Veterans Day). After being mentally exhausted by the overload of info on the Civil War, we went to Pizza Boy, again, before taking off to Philly.

In addition (this might sound weird) but I had a dream last night that a new Pizza Boy was built in the small town I live in, in WI. I was ecstatic... but than I woke up.

Not sure how everyone feels about the place, but I loved it!

Nice story. I've heard some great things about them. I really need to go check them out sometime, as I only live about an hour away.

I guess the other interesting thing is that they were known for their beer selection way before they were known for making their own. How many other places have just as many homebrews as commercial selections? Usually it's one or the other, or they'll have just a few guest taps. For me, I'm more likely to try Daisy Cutter for example, if given the choice between it and one of Pizza Boys offerings. It's sort of like having the choice between Oreo's or the supermarket brand of Oreo's. If they stuck to just their house beers, the whole paradigm would change! In their favor!

I do not mean any disrespect to Pizza Boy. I think its a great story and I'm happy to see its success. Marketing is complex and for every person out there that loves their beer, there's probably someone who thinks differently like me.

I do agree whole heartedly that when they get good beers on draft from other brewers I take advantage of drinking them there.

First thing I had there was Founders Harvest Ale. But then the next two beers I ordered were Pizza Boys  Man they were delicious. They make mean sours!

Did you try their 60 day sour project? That made me pucker right up.

Unfortunately no, don't recall seeing that listed when I was there. I'm going to have to trade for their growlers someday!

I took a trip to Pizza Boy last week and found the 60 day, the hoptart and the diabetes for dollars blueberry sour to all be exceptional. (I just wish they were a little friendlier.)

Did you go in TD evening when they were busy? When they are busy it is a mad house and I could see some of their service being below normal. When I go in during the day (for lunch) they are always pleasant and fun to talk to.

Service hit or miss for me as well. Though I'm usually passing through during non-peak hours on my way to/from NYC. I don't like the "no bar service" go up and order everything yourself setup either, hated it my last trip to Michigan and pretty much every brewpub was setup this way.

About 6 months ago, I found a regular trading partner with access to Pizza Boy, and I couldn't be more thankful for that. All I can say is everything I have had from them is absolutely top notch. Sunnyside Up Little Amps may be the best coffee stout I've ever had. I can't wait to eventually make the trip there. Huge fan of their beers.

I still think that it is hilarious that Terry brewed at Bullfrog and released very limited bottles that were difficult to obtain and garnished a reputation as a great brewery. He is now at a new brewery, choosing to not bottle up stuff for brewery only releases and it flies under the radar. It's the same brewer making more beer on a larger system, most of the beers are available for growler fills so you can actually acquire more beer to drink rather than a single 750ml. Terry is brewing world class beers that are imho right there with a lot of breweies limited stuff that everybody chases after. If you don't believe me, BM me and we can discuss a trade or send me a BM if you're in the Harrisburg area and come to a tasting in which I'll provide Pizza Boy fills.

I don't care how one tries to explain it, but not drinking a beer because of its name or label art work is just plain stupid.

I got to go to Pizza Boy before they opened at the original location. I was in town for business & hooked up with a BA who was friends with the brewer. Got stuff right out of the tanks. They were just waiting for final approval. Was very cool to get to be in on it at the start. Pizza & the beer upstairs were great as well. Glad to see they've done so well.

That place is right on the half way marker when I travel back to my hometown in PA. I do wish that their bottled sours were not in-house only. 22oz is too much sour beer to drink in one sitting when they have so many other things to try. Their food/service was sub-par to say the least, but I don't go to breweries for the food.
