I don't think people realize the importance of the review. You guys and gals have taught me everything I know about beer because of your reviews. ( I know, I always say it because it's always true) The people who like to freestyle in their writing of reviews are plentiful here on BA. The people who do it right - it's like they are giving a clinic on that beer. I love reading them. It's like lambicpentameter said - an evolution.

I give a full review if there is something I really want to say about a beer (good or bad or just plain interesting), or if there are minimal reviews and I want to try to help other people get a feel for it before they buy it.

To rate is to tick. And to tick is the process of converting all of our feelings, perceptions, senses, thoughts and observations into meaningless numbers.

Review, educate and learn about beer. Use words. And share good beer with good people around you.

I keep meaning to write a review, but I think I need a little more experience first. I had a Le Terroir last night and although it smelled great, I could not pinpoint exactly what it the heck it smelled similar to. As for the taste, all I could come up with was "somewhat like a tart grapefruit, sorta like a white wine." Maybe I'm just intimidated by all the other reviews that has stuff like "minerality in the form of wet stones" or "fruity notes of sour green grapes, figs, persimmon, elderberries, and blueberries" or "citrus zest, fresh grass, pine needles, lemon vinaigrette, citric acidity". I have no idea how you pick all that out on one beer. I did enjoy it and it tasted great. Anyway, I'll keep tickin and drinkin for now.

I review when I have time. If I just want to know how I felt about a beer, should I come across it again, I rate. If I really want to take note of something in the beer I really loved (or hate) I review.

(un)fortunately, not everyone here views beer the same. some just enjoy it, and some pour their heart and soul in to every aspect of it. that is why there are reviews and that is why there are ratings.

Lately, I've just wanted to drink my beer without marking any tasting notes or ratings or anything. It's relaxing.

I am in ithaca NY and I got my first taste of Jack's Abby at The Ithaca Coffee Company but I was at Finger Lakes Beverage Center just a couple of weeks ago and they had it too. Wegman's in Ithaca does NOT have it.

I review just about every new beer I drink. Basically I just write up the review immediately after pouring, based on the first few sips from the glass, and then refine the review as I finish the bottle. It usually takes about 3 minutes.

Ha! It is, isn't it? I started a blog and have really only been posting reviews before I start writing actual content. I felt like beer drinking was losing it's fun after two months of having to write everything down. I have a nice log of reviews to write up, but in the mean time, I plan to just enjoy my beer.

Sorry to say I've only reviewed three but I would like to document all of the beers I've had without clicking hads since my memory will inevitably fail me (it probably has already) at some point. To be honest, a lot of you review so much better than I could ever hope to, and some of you seemingly have 20 taste buds :wink:with all of the different flavors detected in the beers. I will review more for sure, but I have my favorite reviewers out there to check up on when I'm curious about a beer I've never had, or just an affirmation of one I'm drinking.

From My impression Ticking is just having a beer to check off on a list of beers to make yourself seem Important and envied haha or just letting everyone know that you have or tried 1-50 of the top beers i dont consider rating beers ticking just voicing my opinion on a beer that I enjoyed I dont do much reviewing because 1 there is a minimum amount of words and I end up over analyzing and describing a beer when all I wanted was to put down a few things I enjoyed I wish when you rated a beer you could put down a few comments like twitter sized ones for those of us that dont want to full on Review just my 2 cents:stuck_out_tongue:
