The beer will inevitably have dissolved oxygen in solution at time of packaging.

Every beer I own is capped except for one - Delirium Nocturnum - it's been upright - should I consider storing this one on its side? It's not Gueuze...

What I'm trying to say is, it really doesn't matter all that much. Most beer is meant to be drank relatively fresh. Store the way it works best in your home. I doubt you'll be holding onto that delirium for 10 years, right?

If you have never had this beer before drink it and get another to see what happens with time. No reason to age a beer you have never had before.

    Enjoy

I never understood why people age beer they have never tried. I know this is a particularly difficult bottle to obtain for the OP, but take notes and when you find another one age it for a few years. Who knows, you personally might find its better fresh. Please don't submerge it in oil, that's just weird.

OP should definitely submerge it in oil.

The beer is getting worse every second that it's not submerged in oil.

Seriously, there is a reason for this. I doubt anyone has ever seriously tried to do such a thing. I think your buddy is trolling you big time, or conversely you are trolling BA.

Maybe it would be better to try this: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/weird-cellar-idea.109027/

    Cantillon is corked and capped!

Joking aside I think even cantillon stores their beers on their side. I don't really think that matter. Just be sure to set it upright a few days before consumption

Anyone tried Hyperbaric chamber aged Cantillon? Could be off the chain,

LOL good read. I didn't necessarily think the idea was totally nuts but the comments were hysterical. The OP compared it to the comments section on youtube but I didn't see anyone slinging racial slurs or calling him a f*g or misspelling their every word.

True, but on the other hand if you have a really special bottle, it makes sense to save it for a special occasion and not just some random Tuesday night by yourself.

Yes. It needs an oil crust. This idea can cellar for centuries.

I can't wait for the all the cellar pictures of giant buckets of oil in a basement. Of course it will be harder to see the labels, but it becomes almost a bobbing for apples situation.

Oil goes rancid. Beer usually doesn't.

Order of importance for aging lambic:

    - Amount of light (you want as close to pitch dark as you can)
    .
    .
    - Temperature (as close to 50-60F is preferable, although I've had 7 year old LP-Kriek stored at 65-70 and it tasted great)
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    - Bottle orientation. I store mine upright as they're both corked and capped, and I worry about the beer being in contact with the cork for that long more than I worry about the seal giving out (given that they're corked AND capped).
