Best/Worst Trade Extras

    Extras are. ..well extras....bonuses. but what are your best and worst trade extras from recent passedd?Maybe a saught after beer or a super old ipa. Let it ring.

    Lets not throw anybody under the buss... but we can have some fun here.

    Think the title should maybe just be best/bestest trade extras. I would never call an extra bad, even if it were a year old IPA. :wink:

    I can't get Firestone Walker and when I recently got 2 Double Jacks that were about 3 weeks old my eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas morning!

    First trade I ever did was Heady Topper for Pliny the Elder. The guy threw a bunch of Odell beers in as extras and (dare I say it), I though Odell IPA was maybe a little better than Pliny.

    Best: Velvet Merkin + KBS + NG Wild Sour as extras (with a Proprieters, Backyard, and 4x BCBW as the main trade).

    Worst: I included a Florida Beer Swamp Ape as an extra multiple times: a good tick though despite being such an awful beer.

    I sent someone a box of 10 zombie dust ASAP for a dinner party he was having and he fired me a Firestone Walker 16th Anny.

    Not me, but a guy I know said he recieved SN Celebration as an extra. ...... good beer, but it can easily be bought anywhere when it is released.

    Best I ever got: Heady Topper, Cantillon Lambic Bio
    Best I ever gave: BCBCS (guy said he'd never had it and wasn't able to get any, so I tossed one it)

    Worst: I'm not doing this one. I'm always happy for extras, especially when they're locals I haven't had and I've never been dicked over with a 2 year old single IPA or some crap, so I'd say I've never had a bad extra.

    Received: Heady. Given: Crooked Stave Surette. Ideally, an extra should be something the receiver can't get, IMO.

    Recently got a Blind Pig as an extra and a Limbo IPA. Just sent a Westbrook Gose and a Founders Porter as extras to someone in California.

    Best I ever got was a Parabola. Totally unexpected and generous and at the time I'd never had it. Blew me away.

    Best extra I recieved was- I traded a Huna for some HF last year and they guy threw in a Lawsons Double Sunshine.

    Worst- Not really the worst, its a good beer. I had 3 trades almost in a row where I was extrad a Big Bad Baptist.

    This makes no sense. It's a good, in some opinions great beer. The fact that it can be easily obtained should make no difference. There is also the possibility they were in the same distribution so then what do you do? Scoffing at getting ANY extra I think is poor form. As far as not wanting something because you can buy one easily, that's like someone offering to buy you "X" beer at a bar and you reply: "No thanks, I can get that here".

    On a separate note, I think a good way to go is to check out a persons want list as well as a comparable distribution. Try to send something off the list or something they can't get.
