I got my first issue of BA magazine, did a quick flip through before heading back to work...now I am fine with paying the $15 just to support this site, but wow the amount of advertising it it is exorbitant in my opinion. Is it just this most recent issue or are they all basically full of ads?

    Thanks.

Full of ads is a good thing! It's a magazine. Without ads there'd be no BA mag. And your $15 covers the cost of printing/shipping; we really don't make any money off of subscriptions at the current price, but offer it as a service for those who want it delivered.

In 2010, the average magazine was ~54% ads. A typical mag should have at least 40% ads or premium pricing if below that, otherwise its survival is questionable.

Issue #64 is ~44% ads, and we're 8 pages bigger as of #64 with more content too. It's our biggest issue ever.

So is the advertising exorbitant? Hardly. We're actually under the average; but would love to hit the average or more.

    Hope this answers your questions/concerns.

    Cheers!

I'll be honest, I don't subscribe to many mags with the whole internet thing, it seemed like a lot, but if those numbers are true then I am mistaken.

Aren't there ads nearly everywhere on the internetz ...

FWIW, we've added more content to the mag over the past couple years and hope to continue down that path. Thanks for subscribing, it means a lot.

ever open a vanity mag (esp the thick ones) like Vanity Fair, Oprah etc. Tehy have literally 50 pages of ads before the page that tells you where every thing is.

The Bros are correct with this one. And not to mention the changes over the past two years in the mag have been awesome. The content has been getting noticeably better on top of them switching to the new paper and covers they use. It has always been good but the old ones would always almost be missing the cover by the time you got it in the mail.

is there any way to link your account to the subscription like on the old site?

Not currently. It would require coding of a custom add-on.

This is my 2nd issue, and I'm really enjoying it... my wife is also reading it, and she doesn't even drink beer, but she is going to try some of the recipes, since they look so good.

So far so good on the content, it was my lack of experience in printed media that threw me off.

You may be older, I just turned 30 two weeks ago! I can't wait to try and explain to my daughter about the days before the internet when she's old enough to understand.

I am about to turn 31 so I am your elder!

But yeah, it's crazy to think of what our kids will never know. I am sure back in the day I subscribed to magazines, but now I just can't do it when you literally have the world at your fingertips. Seems like a waste (unless you are just doing it to support a site you like).

I sorta like the ads in BA mag. Lots of info on new releases that I might have missed, etc...

The BA mag is great, i have been getting it for 2 yrs now. The ads arent that bad, I get to see some names of Beers and breweries that do not distribut in my state. Its all the brew pub and bar adds that throw me for a loop. You would think they would spend money locally.

Good job guys, i am waiting for issue 64

People travel and we have some high population subscriber and distribution areas.

I think you meant to say, "Aren't there ads nearly everywhere on the everything?"

As for ads in BA mag, what's the problem? They're BEER & beer-related ads.

Well I mean most are for local beer bars and events from all over the country. That doesn't help me at all as I do not travel to beer destinations, now if a place/event happens to be where I am headed I'd stop by, but that wouldn't be influenced by an ad I saw unless I happened to see it near the time of the trip.
