For a lager, may I suggest a Celebrator, Aventinus, or Schlenkerla Marzen (or Urbock).

For Belgians, try a oud bruin, Flander's red, Strong dark ale (high abv), lambic, gueuze, or quad. I'm not big on many Belgian styles either, but these are some I enjoy.

Roll Tide. The Sugar bowl will have to do but we prefer championship trophies.

Better still visit Brussels for the weekend (I did recently). The beers won't turn your head - the absolutely blow your mind. Seriously, the beer in Belgium is INSANE!!!

Extra day off for the NYE holdiay, had lunch at Founders and decided to stop at a bottle shop on the way home. Curiosity got the best of me on this rather pricey 2.7% ABV IPA. Definitely is packed with a variety of hoppy flavors. As expected for the ABV, little or no backbone.

Haven't had enough lager to offer any tips there, but Belgian ales...
Pale: Woulda said Duvel, but you ruled that out; Orval (funky and dry), Piraat (considered an IPA, but not really IMO - unique, and amber actually, not pale)
    Tripel: Westmalle, Karmeliet
    Sour: Petrus
Quad: the aforementioned Pannepot, St. Bernardus Abt 12
    Saison: Fantome, Dupont

Enjoying my last day off before going back to work, at least its a short week 1 day  mostly to catch up on emails, 80 degree weather and a great beer.

Getting snowed in with nothing else to do ( ) - so doing an "Insane" vertical of 2013 / 2012 / 2011 (left to right and notice the color difference). It's very interesting to experience this beer side by side as it ages and I have to say, the 2011 (far right) wins, 2013 least favorite with some off flavors. The 2011 is better blended with more complexity (no surprise there).

My next trick is to remain vertical after finishing all three of these babies! :sunglasses: (Slow and steady wins the race!)

Cleaning out the New Years Eve leftovers my friends so "thoughtfully" left in my fridge the only way I know how...by pounding as many as I can at one time in a ridiculous looking novelty mug. You know, though, keeping an open mindset here, this shit could be a lot worse. It kinda just tastes like 7-Up. Maybe I just want to justify how much of a frat boy this picture makes me look like. Oh well.

That being said, a fresh Jack's Abby Hoponius Union will change your mind, it defies lagers.

Just got home from work and shoveled some snow to lessen the burden of tomorrow morning's shoveling.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do sometimes. I need room in that fridge for other essentials, and some girly beers ain't gonna stand in my way of a good time.
