Great Lakes brewing Co. Is releasing the barrel aged blackout stout on Jan 20th at the tasting event ($40 per person with opportunity to purchase early). Released in bottles to public and on draft at the brewery on Jan. 21st. Single bottle $8, 4pack $30, case $180.

Really want to get my hands on this this year. I love the non BA form. Does anybody know the distribution of this beer? Will it reach NOrthwesrern PA?

I thought it was brewery-only. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But I wouldn't get your hopes up.

This has always been brewery only, don't believe that was changed this year.

I can concur that this beer has been brewery only in the past.

The release party is ALWAYS a great time. If you get a ticket, you're beer will be reserved for you. Worth a trip to Cleveland in my opinion.

I have loved this beer for years, but last year it became inescapably clear that it is way overpriced. There are other excellent BA stouts at lower price points (BA Siberian, Bourbon Plead, BCS, etc). I'm passing this year.

After spending the past three years driving to Cleveland for a case as well as the 22oz bottles a few years ago, I'm passing this year. $180 for a case is simply too much coin for this beer. It doesn't come close to most of the other BA stouts, and is priced too high. That's just one mans opinion though.

Agreed Steebo, I was let down when I first tried it. Good, just not great.

Thank you for all your responses. Looks like it's brewery only. Possibly worth the 1.5 hour trip for me, but at $30 per 4 pack, I got my BCBS for cheaper his year at $25 for 4.

Glad I'm not nearby so this is a no-brainer for me. And $25/4 pk for BCBS? I almost balked at paying $18 here in SRQ, FL, but it was my first time so I ponied up.

I will be getting 2-4pks...if anyone is interested in a trade. I never got any bcbcs or bcbbw. BM me.

Central Waters BA Stout (not Imperial, mind you): $13-14 4-pack. Best BA deal out there.

BCBS was about 22/4 pack this year. Quite a bit cheaper. Love Blackout, but not at that price.

Any idea what barrels are used? Maybe that warrants the price?

Never had the BA version but I was extremely disappointed in the shelf version when I had it last year. So, so much roasted coffee flavor for my palate.

I know it's hard to predict how fast it will sell, especially with the growing popularity of bourbon barrel aged stouts and craft beer in general, but what was this event like in year's past? I saw that it was being released on Tuesday, January 21st. Will this stuff still be around that weekend?

I also agree though that the price for this is a little high, especially considering it's about 25% + more in cost than some of the best beers of this style.

Last year it was around for 2+ weeks I believe. Years prior however it would sell out in a day or two.

Thanks. I would like to pick some up but am not going to sweat it if it's out by the time the weekend rolls around. Probably won't be able to make it out until Sunday afternoon.

Edit: Just saw that they are closed on Sundays.
