Talking to a native Austinite beer guy here at work, he was saying how a lot of good breweries have just been intro'd to TX in the past few years or so. I know Ballast Point just joined the TX distro last year, but does anyone have any news about some good breweries starting or expanding distro into TX? Even a rumor mill?

Would love to see Bells, 3Floyds, and maybe some Evil Twin.... To my knowledge they're not in TX at all.

    Odell Brewing in Feb.

3 Floyds will IMO never come to Texas unless they scale up tremendously.. They are a smaller outfit and cant handle output to their current areas (only have full distro in Indiana).. I think I read somewhere that they are staying at current barrel output due to regulations in IN and will not grow past that unless laws change..

ZD sells out at the brewpub usually the day off or next day after they put it on the floor. The few times I have been in Joilet I called the special hotline to find out what beers they had for sale that day and got lucky only once with ZD.

    Bell's early 2015 is what I've heard.

I've heard that one brewery Founder's is pretty good as well :sunglasses:

In all honesty you could stick to just TX beers and still be pretty happy for a long time. Not that I mind the recent influx of new breweries. I just think the in state breweries tend to get over looked because they are local.

Elevation and Odell are the only upcoming arrivals that I'm aware of. Bell's would be awesome, and I truly believe it'll happen in the next few years. 3 Floyds, not so much. Their reach is limited to a small portion of the Great Lakes region. I don't see them coming to TX without covering more ground on the east coast first.

    Elevation? This would be great.

Hopefully Founders has opened the door for more Michigan breweries to distribute here. Bell's was already mentioned. New Holland has a wide enough footprint that it's possible. Jester King's success would be a good reason for Jolly Pumpkin to distribute here. There's other great breweries in the state, but their footprint is so small that it's a long way off or probably never going to happen.

Past 2 years or so out of state highlights... off the top of my head...
    Ballast Point
    Uinta
    Firestone Walker
    B. United Catalog via Favorite Brands (Hitachino Nest, Birra de Borgo, Baladin, Harviestoun, Aecht Schlenkerla, a few others...)
    Odell (2/2014)
    Prairie Artisan Ales
    Palm Breweries (Palm, Rodenbach)
    Atwater
    Founders
    Goose Island
    Southern Tier
Elevation Brewing (this month or next, iirc)
    Upslope Brewing

3 Floyds? That's probably got slightly less of a chance of happening in the next 3 years than Russian River.

Bell's I can definitely see coming to TX in the next 2 years... they're aware of the demand here and are expanding. The Bruery has also been to TX at least twice to court distros but hasn't made a move. Terrapin in another I could see happening. More Colorado regionals would be an easy bet too (since we're a stones throw away)

had read that Knee Deep was eyeing Texas...but they recently announced that they were expanding to 14 new states & internationally in 2014, and Texas was not one of them.

Yeah, I've had a few 3F brews... Alpha King, Gumballhead, and Dreadnaught.... all good. I travel to Kentucky a lot and they have decent distro there. The one beer bar I frequent gets small kegs of ZD what seems like on a "regular" cycle.... maybe once every 2 months or so. Never got a chance to get it.

I completely agree with this. I guess being a transplant, I like to drink some of the breweries that first got me into craft beer, but yes, if no other brewery came to TX, I would be more than content drinking the local beers and current distro.

Too small right now... but they're ramping up production by contracting out brewing in Orlando to expand by 40k barrels or so this year. They've gotta supply Florida and the other markets they've dipped into first (Alabama, Georgia, Philly, etc...). Jai Alai needs to be easy to get in Miami before they try to supply anywhere else. Could happen though... it's not as crazy as you think if they ramp up.

I would love Tallgrass to make it down here. I've really liked all of their beers I've had so far but have no idea if that is feasible/how big they are where else they disto to etc

They pretty much have the central US on lock -- ND/MN/WI southward to OK/AR/AL...

Could you imagine being able to walk in to Specs and pick up Oude Tart, Saison Rue, Sour in the Rye, etc.. anytime you want??

I would also love to see Crooked Stave come to Texas.. I know they just started Distro in Cali as I just picked up the standard 3 a month ago in Santa Rosa.
