So i'm headed to my brothers house just south of Houston and was wondering what IPAs i should try while I'm down there. Throughout the state? Around Houston area?

find a tap with lone pint's pioneer yellow rose, and secure your lips around it.

A very fresh batch of Endeavour just came out in bottles. Second the Yellow Rose recommendation!

Also if you have time check out Hay Merchant, it won't disappoint.

Depending on how far South of Houston you are going you should stop at Nobi pub from some beers. They are located in the Clear Lake area and have great food and a great selection of beers.

Also, if you are looking for bottles I suggest you stop at Spec's Smith Street or D&Q Mini Mart while you pass through downtown Houston. Those two places are going to have your best selection of bottles.

If you are looking for Growlers I recommend you go to Growlers' on Montrose (http://growlersbeerandwine.com/). Most of the bars do Growler fills as well; Hay Merchant, Petrol Station, and Nobi just to name a few.

Here is a thread with a lot of good information about IPA's brewed in Texas. http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/best-texas-brewed-ipas.85124/
Some of these are limited releases so you may not be able to find some of them. I have to 3rd the recommendation for Lone Pint Yellow Rose. You can find fresh bottles of Endeavor, which is a DIPA. Karbach Rodeo Clown and Hopadillo. Houston occasionally gets shipments of Community Mosaic from Dallas, which you should seek out. Any IPA by Austin Beer Works is worth seeking out, not really available in the Houston area but you asked for the entire state. I've heard good things about the IPA and DIPA from 512 Brewing in Austin. Most things from 512 are draft only.

I would also check out http://www.seekabrew.com/distro/index.html to see if Houston gets any distribution that Oregon doesn't.

Attention, Oregon Boy! Please bring us some Hair of the Dog. Adam, Fred and Doggie Claws would be sufficient. Thanks.

I always forget how good Saint Arnold Endeavour is. The latest batch was brewed on 12/23, so it should still be plenty fresh.

If I could recommend only one bottle shop, it would be D&Q Mini Mart (a.k.a The Beer Station). Every time I go in there, it seems like Brandon has more and more stuff. Spec's downtown (Smith St) always has an outstanding collection, and I really like how they now have a Texas aisle.

I also endorse Lone Pint's Yellow Rose. It truly is an amazing single malt, single hop (Mosaic) IPA. Not mentioned yet is Deep Ellum IPA. You would only be able to find it in cans in the Houston area, D&Q Mini Mart would probably be a good place to look for it. Good luck

Yellow rose, endeavor, weekend warrior (pale ale but very good), lost gold IPA is very solid, and rodeo clown is tasty.

Just a heads up I've had bad experiences with Deep Ellum IPA. Others have voiced similar concerns on consistency. Then again others love it. Not trying to hate, just want to make sure you are informed.

Downtown Specs does. I think they truck it down themselves.

I've also seen Community at the Spec's on Mason Road in Katy.
