I really like rayon vert. What other beers are similar? Tried Ommegang BPA. Looking for a bit more funk than rayon and maybe a bit less carbonation. Any suggestions for beers available in the Philly area.

    Thanx in advance

    Enjoy

Orval is a pretty good start.

If you like more funk you should just let some of that vert sit for 6 mo to a year. Or go to a crappy store that likely has old stuff still on the shelves. hops fade brett increases.

maybe orval, but it's very different. if victory wild devil is still available, it's maybe in the same ballpark.

rayon vert is one of those unfortunate beers that's really good, seems to suggest a whole style of beer that you'll be able to find if you look hard enough, but is actually pretty unique.

it's pretty hard to find refreshing pale ales with brett (or any beer with as subdued but good brett as in rayon vert). maybe if rayon vert does well enough, it will spawn some imitators.

edit: maybe shot in the dark-ish, but you could try jolly pumpkin beers, like la roja.

Perhaps a saison would fit your need, since they are very funky.

Appreciate Rayon Vert for what it is & forget the Brett hype train. Lots of available ones are poorly made and crazy expensive.

Lots of other styles to enjoy, you can occasionally get your Brett fix with a well -made beer like RV.

They also taste nothing like Vert. I agree with posters above. Enjoy RV and cellar some to taste it funkier. Don't see how you could get much more funk without a big drop in hop character, though.

Never had Rayon Vert, so next time I'll comment on a beer I've actually had lol. My bad. I just figured that if the OP liked funkiness, he might enjoy a saison. (In any case I need to try some Rayon. I"ve heard it's similar to Orval, so that should be incentive enough).

And he might like saisons, it just won't scratch the Rayon itch. It's like Orval with west coast hopping. Totally glorious. Could be my session beer for life -- and it was the first beer from Green Flash I even thought was particularly good.

Nice. Definitely gonna pick up some Rayon one of these days. Anyways, maybe a Belgian IPA would tickle the OP's fancy? Just throwing suggestions out there. Though it seems Rayon Vert is a hard beer to find a legimate comparison to.

Definitely, a different animal, but anyone who enjoys Rayon would probably like Houblon Chouffe...

I would suggest any beers from Anchorage if you have access to them. They brett condition every beer they make. I really enjoyed Galaxy White IPA and Bitter Monk, it's a DIPA done with brett. Actually I really like everything I've tried from them, including Tide and It's Takers and Love Buzz.

Helios is still brett-ed, right? That could be another possibility, and you'd save a couple bucks vs Orval.

Excellent suggestion! As I was reading this thread I was thinking to myself: there is no beer that has the Brett character of Rayon Vert. I forgot about Helios.

    Cheers!

lil sumpin' wild by Lagunitas. It does not start out too funky, but with age the brett develops more.
