Agreed ESHBG. As someone who doesn't consider himself to be a "hater" I was truly disappointed and returned the case I bought minus 2 bottles last year. You can make fun all you want with the " more for us!" but you should be aware that some terrible beers were in the supply chain last year. I know it's meaningless, but I enjoyed this beer for many years and advocated it to a lot of friends, and it really angered me how bad the case I bought was. Crossing fingers for a return of my used to be favorite beer.

I bought 3 six-packs from 3 separate places last year. They were all bad. I believe they were all from the same batch, and bottled on the same date. Not only was it not the juicy, hoppy beer it had been, but the color of the beer was even a little different.

I was definitely disappointed. I did end up trying a different batch on tap later in February or March, and it was much better....still not the same beer I looked forward to every single year though. Here's to hoping it's back to normal this year!

My first thought when I saw the thread title was "Let it Begin!" And by that I mean the reporting of the 'off' batches.

Honestly, and obviously, I hope there are none this year. But I have personally have experienced enough myself to know there truly have been issues in the past.

I recall the posts from last year about "off" batches, but I don't think it was ever verified. Certainly I don't recall Troegs ever verifying that such was the case. There did seem to be some batch variation, but taht struck me as fairly natural/common, even more so given that Troegs had only recently moved into their new facility (as I recall).

Shrug. Troegs makes a lot of NN, and it's distributed farther and farther abroad every year. It would be nice if there was some guarantee that the beer would be treated properly wherever it's shipped, stored or sold, but the reality is that that's probably not a realistic expectation. Consequently, I think it's predictable that there will always be reports of off batches, skunked beer, batch variation, etc. However, the beer has a good enough track record that I'm always willing to give it a try, and it (along with Hopslam) is one of my favorite beers to look forward to this time of year.

As for the handling by distributors, that is the reason I bought NN from 3 different stores. At one point, I figured it probably wasn't the distributor or store handling.

I still love Troegs, and NN is still one of my all-time favorite beers. I will try for sure again this year. I was just pretty disappointed last year.

Last year I had bottlings that were 1 day apart and they were completely different beers. One was F-ing amazing and one was bitter and junk.

I just had it for the first time last night and thought it was great..
Picked up a surprise case for my dad to give him tonight. It won't get in our area to the week of 20th, but why wait right?

I had my first one with some friends last night. I'm almost afraid to say it but I don't think its the same as it use to
be. Something is off, not sure what but it just didn't taste like the nugget nectar of old. It could be my taste buds. I will retry again tonight, as I really look forward to this beer every year.

We just need to know which are the good batches. So far, 12/23 is good yes?

I feel like no IPA - or hop forward beer - is as good as the first time I tried it. Sucks, Tasmanian, OTWOA. First time they were fantastic. Still drink them, but not as amazed; they're old hat.

All that to say, same phenomenon can be applied to Nugget Nectar. The recipe is the same, and certainly there's going to be some variation from year to year, but the context in which you're drinking this beer has changed.

I really like the draft version this year, but my 12/23 bottles taste pretty good too.

Ill be in Pittsburgh over the MLK weekend and am looking to pick up a case of this. Will I have any problem finding it? Or should I send a friend out now to pick up a case for me?

A friend picked me up a case in the Lancaster area last Thursday. I've had 4 bottles from it so far and have been disappointed. Very little aroma and hop flavors with a bitterness on the back of the tongue. I had my wife try it since she loved it last year as well without saying anything and she said the exact same thing. Hoping I got a bad case or something. Bottled 12/23. My friend said his case tasted fine and it was bottled the same day I believe. I am going to pick up a six pack when it is distributed near me and see if it tastes any different.

Edit: Got a response back from Troegs on Facebook. So far great customer service.

"Thanks for your recent purchase of Nugget Nectar. We appreciate your comments. Customer feedback for Nugget Nectar this year has been overwhelmingly positive so far. We have no known microbiological issues with the beer, and all packaged Tröegs beer has been screened and passed by our internal sensory tasting panel. We would recommend trying another bottle, and if you feel there is something inherently wrong with the beer, please contact us and we will try to make arrangements to get your beer back for further testing. Thanks again for your support of Tröegs Brewery!" - Jeff Herb / Media Marketing Coordinator
