2 years ago, City Tap House actually had leftovers after everyone in the house bought a pour. They raffled off the remains of their sixtel in a growler that went home with one lucky gentleman, who probably didn't make it into work the next day.

Last year, the crowd was such that the beer was all spoken for well before it was due to start pouring. A few people spent from Noon - 6 PM at the bar to ensure a pour, which while it's a bit of a dastardly way to get people to hang out in your bar all day, beats the hell out of standing in line outside.

Lighten up Francis. Were talking about the rated three beer on the site, and you you're the one making the bonehead comment about homebrewing. Your initial comment simply read, ''This is why we homebrew, people''. Did it not? Nothing about purchasing alternatives at the store. It seems you have an issue with reading comprehension. Why wouldn't I ask a question about your homebrewing after that statement? You have an issue, and its not your homebrews. I was asking questions out of curiosity at first, but now with your last prick response it I honestly couldn't care less. Being a prick is fine, I can understand it, but don't expect to not be called out on it when making idiotic comments.

    Cheers

So he could get everyone and their brother saying: "Where is it? You gotta tell me!" As he sits smiling and clueless like the rest of us...

I am also going for my first time this year. I lived in the midwest before August '13 (where you couldn't get it anywhere) and now I live in Oregon (about 7 hours away). Luckily, it is also my girlfriend's birthday, so I have an excuse to go.

I do have a question, though. Do you guys think it will make a big difference if i am able to come the Thursday (2/13) after the release (I will be in town around 8 pm) or wait outside the brewpub starting around 10am the next day or would it make no difference if I just waited outside the brewpub starting at 8 or 9am the release Friday? I can go either weekend, so I figured I'd try to choose the method that wastes the least amount of time, as we want to do other fun stuff in SFO.

    My past PtY experience:
Time waiting for beer: 5 min
Going to a bar and drinking high ABV beer at 11 AM: not worth it.

You're not going to hear trumpets and see rainbows. Previious times have been the shitshow crowd scenes and were absolutely not worth it.

I went to Monk's in Philly about 4 years ago for this. Waited 30 mins for the place to open then dealt with the insane rush at the bar. It's a great beer, but can't say I would do that again, let alone wait 8 hours.

Yes, it will make a difference. For one thing, RR limits the amount of PtY they tap each day, and it's entirely possible that they may be out by the time you get into the pub on Thursday. Getting in line early the next morning is a much better idea, though as it's a Friday, even then you may not get right in when the doors open at 11:00. As for the release day, even if you get there at 8 or 9, expect there to already be a considerable line out the door. Even if you get there at 8, it would not surprise me if you still ended up waiting an hour or more to get inside once the doors open at 11:00. I strongly advise avoiding the pub on release day, assuming you find long lines and long waits annoying.

Just a thought, but is there some reason you don't want to try your luck in Portland when Oregon gets their allocation? You'll still end up standing in line, but the lines will likely be shorter at most places, and I'm assuming your drive won't be as long either.

+1 to this. Also, try to get there as early in the day as you can, preferably an hour or more before the pub opens. It used to be that during the week the lines would tend to die down later in the afternoon or evening on weekdays, but that sure wasn't the case last year. I stopped by several times during the middle of the week, and there was never a time when I saw less than a 100 people waiting in line outside.

    It's just beer folks.
It's good, quite good, but in the end it's just beer.
Alas, I know a place in San Diego that doesn't ***** itself out for the cause. And only there is where I shall partake of the Younger.

absolutely. we flew into san francisco on a thursday last october. we were going to rr to see the supersuckers that night. well, our flight was delayed so we didn't land until about 4. went with an off site rental agency (NEVER AGAIN!) which was south of the airport, then we had to turn around and drive north. made it to santa rosa around 7. and it SUCKED. but i'll tell you what...the first pte of the night was sublime.

dang! maybe if there were bottles I would wait that long but really I personally would not wait that long just for a small pour of beer. sure I'll wait in line for bottle releases but that is the extent of my pain.

I'm going to be in Sonoma while this is happening and would love to grab some lunch and a few PtY at the brewpub, but I don't want to wait in line for hours. Two questions: Can I purchase bottles and growlers from RR without waiting in the line for PtY? Can anyone help with a couple bars in Sonoma County that might be on the distribution list?
