Seeing as I do not know much about these guys I thought I would open a thread to talk bout them. I see that so far they have been doing the Clown Shoes type of thing by having other beers brew their stuff. Will they continue this model even after setting roots in Houston? Will all of their beers be available in Houston now that they are officially official?

Cannot wait to try the new DIPA they are working on for their official launch.

Wow! Didn't know that Ben was finally able to brew in Houston! For those unaware, the owner/brewer of Brash Brewing is Ben, the owner of Petrol Station. Previous regulations made it impossible for him to own a brewery and a bar in Texas (at least that is my understanding).

Their facebook page says 3 canned beers, including a 100+ IBU IIPA, and rotating seasonal 22 oz bombers. First of which seems to be Vulgar Display of Power, a 14% RIS with madagascar vanilla beans.

I will do disgusting things for that. The IIPA sounds great, too.

Brash and Clown Shoes had alot of similarities. They were both based in MA, both of them contract brewed using Mercury Brewing to brew their beers. Both had creative bomber art with witty/silly names or art work. They even collaborated on a few beers together. I'm excited to see what Brash will become.

    Just posted on Facebook:

In February we will lovingly fill whiskey barrels with smoglifter. Later in 2014, we will bottle it and it shall forever be known as Brash Urban Achiever. It will be available in most states that currently carry our beer

Whenever I bought up a random Brash beer at Steins in NOLA he instantly asks, so youre from Houston? I guess Houston people were the only ones picking them up.

Steins asked me the same thing instantly when I bought Bruery beers there

Anyone who brews Pantera-related beer is okay in my book.

I was surprised to see them in CA recently, as I thought they were TX-based. Looking at seekabrew, they have super random distro.
I'll give 'em a try soon.

What law changed to make this possible? Anyone know how they finally got licensed? I know they had big issues in the past... now they own a 13000 sq FT facility and 30bbl Brewhouse in Houston.

The owner is also the owner of Petrol Station, a very popular craft bar in Houston. They never distro'd to Texas before because of the state laws prohibiting someone from owning more than 1 tier of the 3 tier system (brewer, distributor, retailer). Apparently they can now be classified as a brewpub, like Jester King, and produce stuff and sell bottles and draft to the public.

    Ah, that makes sense.

Interesting though if they can classify the business as a brewpub and brew elsewhere.

Well, they used to brew out of state. They have apparently bought some property inside Houston and will start brewing there.

If I were to guess, the beers brewed and bottled at Mercury will not be for sale here and only the things produced in the Houston brewery. They could still sell all of those other things in other states.

Salient question here, as I've seen references to "used to brew", and the like. Have they stated officially that Brash is no longer brewing out of state?

Maybe I'm reading too much (or little) into it, and I didn't read all of the comments, but it doesn't say they will stop brewing in Ipswitch.
