Just cracked a Zoe last night, a gift that was extra'd to me by a great trader. I loved it. When searching for it on this sight, I noticed a Chardonnay barrel aged version exists, & has a posting as recent as last November.

Is there any more info on this beer? I'm assuming it was tap only? Does it still exist? Is it on tap currently? Available for growler fills?

I'd love to know more about this... Any insight would be great, as their website doesn't mention anything about their tap list.

    Thanks & Cheers

Their only canned offerings are regular Zoe, Alt, and Pale Dog... with Greenhouse IPA forthcoming (a rotating IPA series). The main 3 are brewed on their 30bbl system... Zoe being their biggest seller.

Their barrel-aged beers and other small-batch beers (brewed on their smaller experiemental 3 bbl system called the "Greenhouse") are generally only found in their tap room or on draft (occasionally) at bars... and only in Austin. It's also pretty much damn near impossible to get a growler fill of one at the time being.

Good to hear you like Zoe. I love that shit. Perfect spring/summer beer in the heat round here. Pretty damn cheap as well... a case will run ya ~25-28 locally.

Add to that that breweries here can't fill growlers, it makes it even harder to come by.

Hops & Grain actually can.... any brewery licensed as a brewpub can.

Austin is just being cute with Zoning right now and says they're not zoned to "sell" beer. Which is why you pay for the glass... not the beer.

I'm fully aware of the laws. H&G is not a brewpub at the moment. They have not switched. They talked about it, but haven't.

I'm pretty sure they are in fact a brewpub. I think they were actually the first brewery to switch their license to brewpub. They definitely submitted their paper work a while ago

The city went back to them about requiring food or a kitchen (something along those lines) that caused them to pause the progress on that. They were going to switch but they haven't yet due to some obscure food rule.

Is that a city of Austin thing? I'm assuming it has to be something like that. They should just do what Kuhnhenn does, serve crappy frozen pizzas and have a popcorn machine

They were requiring a kitchen on site with a certain number of actual plate - they couldn't get away with hot dogs and popcorn.

That is the last I've heard from them and that was not that long ago

It's a zoning thing I believe. They were building out the brewpub area a few months ago.

just to let yall know, we are not a brewpub (we tried but unfortunately due to our zoning we would have to generate 51% of our revenue in food so we sidelined that for the time being) but we are open to the public wed-fri 2-8 and sat 12-6 and the new space has opened with plenty of room for all.

as for growlers, we are not allowed by law to fill growlers. we would absolutely love to make this happen & are trying many different options to try and make this a possibility.

if yall have any other questions im more than happy to answer them, my name is William & I run our taproom and understand there is confusion with everything going on and really want to help in any way possible.

The chardonnay barrel aged alt zoe is delicious but the chardonnay barrel aged alt is even better.

    This is the truth.

Best version of Zoe was Fresh Hop Zoe. *drool*

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to trying Greenhouse IPA.
Would it be possible to have a tap list on the website or get another H&G twitter account to talk only/mostly about what's on tap?
I live 3 blocks from Pinthouse Pizza and go less than once a month because I don't know what's on tap but I know what's in my fridge. I'm more likely to re-visit H&G if I know what's on tap.
From a traveling visitor perspective, with multiple places to choose from in Austin, having a tap list might help get more out-of-town people to visit.
