I'll be driving thru the Charleston area on or about March 24th. When is MC bottled? And, what are my chances of scoring a few bottles?

Not positive but I think that's pretty close

You'll definitely be in the right area, Charleston and Mt Pleasant are maybe 20 minutes apart, but you might be a little early for the release.

Just heard back from Westbrook. They said the tentative release date for the MC is May 5th....

Trust me it is great. The BA AB & JD Mexican cake are amazing.

Looking forward to it myself. I missed it last year, and have no chance at the BA versions, but just want to get a few of the regular stuff this year. It's on my radar for sure! Love me some Westbrook.

They tend to be finicky on their releases, so I don't know if I'd put too much into that date.

Trying to bring this thread back a little. I'm just trying to learn more about the release. I'm trying to make it this year. How does it unfold? Line, tickets, etc. Will the variants be available at the regular release?

No variants available. Don't think MC release is a big to-do.

No the variants have no set release date this year. Regular is around May 8th. I can't remember regulars release, however the ba Mc variants was a line and the first 200 people had an option to purchase 2 bottles each of the 3 varieties. After that they weren't all guarenteed. My buddy was like 213 and only got red wine.

Regular Mexican Cake will be released in May. It's not a big event or anything; you can find plenty of it in bottle shops across the state (and maybe even more now that they've got those 120 BBL fermenters in).

There's no release date set for BA MC, and there's a chance there might not be a release this year. Mike from Westbrook said the brewery is taking a "they're done when they're done" approach, and they won't release BA variants until they're happy with how they're tasting. Remember: The BA MC variants released last year were from the first batch (brewed in 2011, bottled in 2012) that had been aging for 18 months. The current barreled versions (tequila, bourbon, etc.) have been in barrels less than a year.

If ba mc doesn't release this year that would be a huge mistake by Westbrook.

I don't think so. Why does it have to be an annual event? They've shown they know how to run a great barrel program (with BA MC especially) and the anticipation is there. People may not necessarily be happy they have to wait longer, but what makes people think they're entitled to having it at a certain time? I'd rather have Westbrook release a batch of great variants every other year (or whenever they're happy with the product) and let that anticipation build more than to have them release an OK batch of variants at the same time every year.

Your opinion is valid. My thought process is when you are a up and coming brewery and you have a huge hit on your hands you give people what they want or else they will go elsewhere. I'm sure the 3rd release is being planned now that they know they have something big on their hands.

I think Westbrook's pedigree is already fairly established for such a young brewery. They're huge in SC and really well-respected in the region. Plus, Mexican Cake is on the national radar, so I don't feel as if they're in the stage of having to prove themselves. For something like BA MC, I think people will be willing to wait. I would love it if BA MC is an annual release - and again, I'm just going off what I've heard from folks at the brewery - but I'd rather have them do it right than do it too quick.

The infinitely bigger mistake would be releasing a sub-par product.

Why no love for the RW variant, it was my favorite of the three.
