I bought two bottles of this stuff this week, having never heard of it before. There are so many varieties and I ended up with 2 bottles of the Elijah Craig (12 Year) which has the purple sealing wax. It was the most I ever spent on a bottle of beer ($ 28.99 for a 22 oz bomber).

Well, I just poured one of the bottles and I must say this is PHENOMENAL beer! Mouthfeel and aroma don't compete with BCBS but flavor does and it beats out BCBS in appearance. IMO this beer is in the same league as BCBS, KBS and Parabola.

Who else has had this beer and what do you think of it?

Haven't had it. Probably never will. It's on the shelves here now, but at $29 a bottle, I'm not touching it.

I just drank my 2012 a couple days ago and it was utterly perfect. Put that other one away and reap the benefits. But I will say I am still not comfortable dishing out that kinda cash for a bomber.

I've had 3 different variants and they were all great! At $30 a bomber, it's obviously a beer you don't drink daily, but the way I look at it is, wine drinkers will shell out $30 for a bottle of wine and not "batt an eye"! And I'd much rather drink an Elijah Craig Eclipse over any bottle of wine I'd ever had!

2-3 years of cellaring is the sweet spot for these beers. I was fortunate enough to go to a tasting event ranging from 2009-2013 beers. The 2010-2011 beers were the best. All of their varieties are great though, just subtle differences in each one n

Disappointed there's only one "too expensive" response in the first few posts. Give it an hour or two, they'll multiply like rabbits in heat.

It's widely regarded as a great beer & is on the top 250 list. It's not my favorite amongst the Eclipse variants, but it's still an excellent beer.

Definitely a great beer. I would only buy it though if I have some gift money that I have earmarked for wasteful spending because it is gift money.

Picked up the Pappy from this year's batch. I had a long week and wanted something I knew would be amazing to just enjoy for the night. It did the job, it was great. I've had it one other time (I think in Old Fitz) and while it was great, man the Pappy killed it. To me, if you're spending $30 on a bottle, make sure it's a great version.

How much did the Pappy cost?

I always find it for $22 per bottle. The only time I see them for $25-30 is when they are cellared and released a year or 2 later.

I wish the Vanilla Bean version made it out this way. I'd probably drop the coin on that one :-)

I heard the Pappy was around $50 a bottle at the Eclipse party. May be wrong, though.

Where could you find it for $30?

Pappy was $40 at the release party, and it wasn't distributed to my understanding.

If I had a Viper SRT as an avatar, I'd probably be able to give a review, but mine's only an SRT-4 so unfortunately I have to pass them by on the shelves LOL.

Hmm maybe it's the Elijah Craig I had then... not sure. The color looks closest to the PVW one on their site and it did look like the color they had printed out at the store. Not sure, either way, it was awesome and well worth the money.

BringOnTheBeer just had 6 variants online this weekend, and I tried to grab all 6, but I missed the Elijah Craig (Purple) for 2013. I do have the 2012 EC-Eclipse already, so i guess it's not a total loss. Can't wait to try the "Lavender-Java" one!
