Ok, time to get the ball rolling here...

I'm very new to this (organizing a bottle share)... especially at a big event like this with 3500 people roaming around... so any feedback will be helpful.

I know many have expressed interest on the other thread, so i figured we could get a thread of its own going and start figuring out what needs to be done ahead of time.

Is it really important to do a pre-inventory (google docs thing) like i'm seeing in the other share threads? does that really make things better? and does it work in such a big atmostphere as huna day? how did it work last year?

I can say right up front, i'm bringing somewhere between 6 and 10 high end bottles... including Life is Like..., Eclipse (Evan Williams), Nooner Batch 3, and a couple more. Might bring a Speedway horizontal (regular/kopi/ba kopi) as well.

Anyway, fire away. I'm fine with either takign the lead, or doing a group effort to get this done... but I would appreciate any info to help make this a success.

    Signed,
    newbie

Big question: will CCB provide an area for the bottle share? Or is that one on us?

Also, what time are people planning on getting there considering we won't have to wait in line hours before now.

From what I gather, we'll need to b-line to a table set it up... from that point on, we'll be good. if we could reserve one, that would be even better, but I doubt that would happen (unless we brought our own.)

I'm planning on still standing in line a little... may as well get the share started early  (assuming that is kosher) Not meaning 6am... but if gate opens at 11, mabye 9:30 or 10, so to get a spot closer than columbus ave (like last year!)

A couple thoughts... 1st and foremost, I'm pretty sure the last thing CCB wants to have happen is a huge amount of people to show up early and stand in line to get in.... If there is a line all the way down to the Home Depot by 10 a.m. I think it will mean bad things for CCB/future Huna days with the city/Tampa PD. Maybe I'm wrong, but CCB has eluded that the changes to this years event are at least in part to eliminate the need to stand in line early.

As far as organizing a bottle share... Pretty much the entire day is a bottle share. IMO a spreadsheet will probably not be that useful due to the # of people who might contribute (it will be a HUGE list). One of my favorite things about Huna day is getting in line for a beer, striking up a convo with whoever is in front and/or behind me, and pulling a bottle of something awesome out of my cooler and sharing it with those around me.

There was a bottle share last year and it was awesome. People came and went as they pleased for beer/food etc. I'm sure everyone from last year would agree. And I agree about the line. I'm walking in at 11
But with a cooler of awesome beers to share for the bottle share.

Typically what we have done in the past is everyone gets a spot set up anywhere they can, we grab a few beers from the cooler, and walk around until you find people to share with. Obviuosly someone would have to watch your belongings so the closer we could all get together the better, but there will be plenty of bottles being opened.

if the guys at CCB don't think there's going to be some sort of line to get into Hunahpu then they are sorely mistaken. There will be a line no matter what, its just how do they go about doing it.

As for a share, im on the fence. From going to the GABF countless times, drinking high ABV beers (7%+) even at 1-2oz at a time over the course of just 3hrs adds up quick and Hunahpu day is 6hrs. Ill bring bottles to potentially share but id rather share in lines so i dont miss out on any special tappings

Pretty much my thoughts. Last year I drank bottles with whomever I was standing around with at a given time. To me, an "official" bottle share at any event like this is just an unnecessary logistical headache. If you start chatting up your neighbors, you're going to meet BA's, share some great beers, and have a great time, no spreadsheet or designated area required. Just my $.02, although it does seem like others have enjoyed setting up and attending these more official shares, so whatever floats your boat.

Just saw someone posted in the Peg's thread suggesting a post-event share at the Hilton. Don't know how many folks are staying there, but THAT'S an idea. I'd love to be able to leave Hunahpu day, grab some food, then start whale slaying back at the hotel.

This. I only plan to bring bottles to randomly open if a line is too long or I run out of beers to try there...

As most have stated an official bottle share is logistically crazy and unneeded on a day like Hunahpus Day. That being said it is a great day to bring some bottles and share them with whomever.

I'm gonna elaborate on something joshodoon said about people showing up early. I am sure Gunhaver will remind folks of this, but Spruce St. Is not wet zoned so anyone opening up bottles could find themselves in trouble with local law enforcement. Now I myself am guilty of this in the years past, and I have never seen anyone get in trouble. However, with the increased scrutiny of CCB and Huna Day we might want to keep this in mind. Remember there was a time when the tasting room almost went away because of concerns from the neighborhood, luckily that never happened.

That being said I also don't see 3,500 people showing up and no giant line forming at around 10:30. Hopefully CCB already is planning on opening the gates earlier and not start pouring till11:00. This would do wonders IMHO to keep the line down.

No matter what it will be a great day.

Interesting... seems like the share is generally not being received well enough to put in the effort.... but i won't rule it out just yet.

There WILL be a line well before 11... the excitement, and the lack of parking will make sure that happens. It won't be anything crazy like last year, but people will be lining up, unless ccb preempts it via Jloomis's point... if they open the gates sooner without pouring, people will go onto the property, and start sharing their own stuff and be out of the streets quickly.

I'm quite ok with either scenario playing out (formal share, or no formal share). There will be plenty of good stuff available either way. I kinda like the formal share idea to meet some new people on here too, but that can be arranged even without the formal share... keep the debate going here. If there is 15-30 people willing, we can do the formal thing. If everyone is content without the share, message me before Huna day and we can at least meet up and I can share some of my stash during the event.

A 10am gate opening, share a bottle or so until 11 am would be awesome

we're going to allow people into the fest grounds as soon as they start arriving so any lines that form will be in the wet zoned area on our property.

Bottlesharing at an AYCD event where there will already be great beer seems strange.

That said, I'll probably bring some good stuff to trade or share.

Agreed. But if a large group wants to do a bottle share, go for it, I will be in line drinking all the fine brews that will be on tap.

I've personally never understood why people would pay the $50 ticket price to drink beer they already own:confused: With what CCB has on tap, save your bottles for another day.
