    Saw this pigmentationally challenged label on the shelf while shopping for Hopslam. Sometimes the best finds are the ones you're not seeking. A great beer, a difficult label to photograph. I need a drink!

    I was excited to see that the local bottle shop received, among other things, Sculpin for the first time! I wasn't too excited about the price per bomber; very not cool.

    ....then I cracked the beer, and I could tell from the aroma that it wasn't fresh. I wasn't familiar with Ballast Point bottles, so I didn't know to look for a Julian date. After I smelled it, I consulted Google, found the code, and lo: it was bottled in early October. Super sad face.

    It still tastes decent, but there's that flat, almost musty or dull flavor that IPAs get with age. Plus, while there was a good amount of head, there's no sting or bite at all.

    This is my second time trying Sculpin, and both times it's been "old." I don't feel fair giving it a full rating off of a dated bottle. And if this tastes the same fresh, then a) I'll eat my hat; b) I 100% don't get the hype. No way it isn't affected.

    Whatever; I'll finish it off, regardless, and then move on to a fresh Hop Ranch. :wink:
