Hey all, hope all is well in your worlds. I have been reading this forum for a very long time, but just recently joined. This is my first thread that I have started. Let's hope I don't bomb it.:grinning:This is a topic that I don't think has come up before, and I was wondering if anyone else has the same habits as me.
Do you ever save your good beers for a long while waiting for that moment that you really want to drink it? Obviously I don't mean IPAs because we all know those go bad in 3 days. I'm meaning beers that can handle age and you keep them for a few weeks or months until you realize that waiting for a "perfect time" to enjoy it is kind of ridiculous since it's just beer anyway. I did this with the Cinnamon Roll'd WnB I had, and a couple others, and damn were those beer awesome, but it was kind of stupid to wait so long to try it. It was amazing but it isn't like my waiting made some kind of life altering event out of it.

When I buy a beer that I was excited to find, I tend to save them for a special occasion. I don't age them for the sake of aging them, but I don't want them to be gone.

That's exactly what I was referring to. I guess that "special event" never happens and I end up enjoying it anyway. Funny given my insanely impatient personality.

I definitely do this. I saw a great quote by someone else (not sure who) who was able to drink a really hard to find beer. He said he felt like he was killing a unicorn. Great quote, and I do often feel that way. So I'll shelve them until the perfect occasion. Sometimes.

Yup.. I have an Anchorage Tide and Its Takers that I cannot get myself to drink.. I've only found it once ever and I just don't want it to be gone.. It makes no sense.

It's really hard to sit on anything in my little world. I remember many years ago I worked on a customers car, and we always barter for wine as he has an awesome wine selection. He handed me a 97 Silver Oak Cabernet, an amazing bottle that I would never buy. I decided that I would uncork it when Osama Bin Laden was captured. I held on to that bottle for many years. Way too many before cracking it and enjoying every last damn drop...probably drank it in 2004. I just can't sit on anything long enough as I'm weak, it's almost like having Christmas in a bottle, the anticipation and excitement...
I do have some BC that I plan to hang on to for a while, but I know it won't...

I did sit on some Pliny for six weeks after someone here thought it tasted better when aged six weeks. I like it fresher better...I'm freak though...

Id like to think I can ration, but probably not. We'll see, I got a member here bringing me a 12 pack of NB Accumulation, my favorite favorite beer. Wonder if it makes it a week?

Some I have are waiting to be a part of verticals.
Some will never be made again and it is either just a matter of finding the right time and/or the right people to drink them with or letting them cellar to when I think they will 'hit their stride'.
But for the most part I am drinking more and more beer fresh and have really been trying to cut back on cellaring.

It makes all the sense in the world. I always save whatever piece of food I deem "best" for my very last bite, even if that means its cold and less enjoyable than it would have been earlier. Not sure theres a parable there but eh.

I try to save my bombers and higher abv beers, sours, stouts and tripels for sunday. During the week it's whatever I bought in the six pack, go to's and standards. So yes, I save my beer for at least 1 week. :grinning:

I save my best beers for last as well, especially if I only have the one, but even in a six pack I will drink it until there one or 2 left and then hold because I just dont want it to be gone, lol crazy

Usually I won't open any top 100 beer by myself. I like reminiscing along with a friend about how good the beer was more than just telling how good it was. That often requires waiting until the right friend

When I find a good beer or something I've been looking for, I drink it as soon as I find a bottle opener.
It's like a hot girl finally agreeing to go out with you and not trying to bang her the first night....what are you waiting for!? Probably not gonna get better with age, either way.

When i find myself staring at a rarer beer i tend to always try my best to fork out enough money for 2 bottles just to avoid this situation

Yes. It was difficult to get The Lost Abbeys Serpent Stout out here, I saved it for awhile. But I have a six pack of zombie dust and hopslam that will be drank fresh. I assumed that goes without saying though.

Nope. No I don't. I'll save a great stout until the end of the evening. It's the best I can do. I'll never be able to build a cellar. I can't hold out that long. I might be gone tomorrow. Ya never know. Then, I ask you. Who's gonna drink it? My grandbaby? He won't ever appreciate the subtle year v. year nuances.

I live for today, when I buy beer, it's for drinking soon. It probably has something to do my location since I have to drive 70 miles for any kind of selection and still, it's just mediocre at best. I never have enough money to buy extra beer to save for later anyway. I would feel pretty silly if I had all these awesome beers stowed away and then died before I could taste em.
