I know no one probably cares but what a week it has been. Grabbed a growler of Ballast Point Sculpin, growler of Stone Old Guardian, the last six pack on shelf of Lagunitas Sucks (1st ever seeing/having) sixer of Lagunitas Brown Shugga (ditto), sixer of the new Sam Adams Rebel IPA. And all this is a 45 min drive from where I live, on way back I stopped at the newly opened Buffalo Wild Wings and while I was waiting for my order I went up to bar and they just so happened to have the Sam Adams Rebel on draft, which was quite delicious. Than last night out my favorite pub/grille which has 40 beers on tap (which is HUGE where I live, CDA, Idaho, had Celebration on draft and also had a pint of Descheautes Red Chair NW Pale Ale (on Nitro) first ever Nitro beer and It was absolutely amazing. And on top of all that the place 45 mins away (newely opened Total Wine) is getting Stone Enjoy By 2/14/14 bottles and possibly draft early next week. Just had to let that all out because where I live this is quite the pickup.
Ever since I heard Stone's Greg Koch call Guiness a "4.2 abv mainstream watered down stout" I haven't had any desire to try it.
Has this site always had threads like this? Or is it just like the last 6 months or so they've really picked up steam? While I'm happy that OP has landed some stuff, I dk. I don't really think it deserves it's own thread... but that's just me...
Way to kill the OP's week! I like the enthusiasm and would encourage others to share their own experiences of beer related elation. What exactly should a proper thread be, anyway? I think you dk, as you state you are happy for the OP's score, or you wouldn't have taken the time to respond. But that's just me... Enjoy your acquisitions, DaltonC!!!
Haha I remember when there was thread about "that new style of beer, double IPA" , and folks talking about "that new idea in beer trading the Beer It Forward." Folks come here to express their excitement about fine beer, and since I have been here that includes quite a bit of topics just like OP's. And there seem always to have been folks who couldn't hold in their lack of enthusiasm as well.
How is that Sculpin? I had it in my hand last night because Big Eye is a tasty alternate in the Ballast family. At Tower Liquor store here in Atlanta your able to buy a single beer and this one was $4.00, I put it back found Resin for $5.99 and got some Dirt Wolf. Sculpin was rated World Class I guess so at $13.00 a six it better be good. That was a dream week to have you lucky sob. Still waiting for another Totally Wine store to open a little closer to home. Keep up the good weeks of assorted tastings, enjoyed the story I,m envious!
I've had Boulevard barrel aged Quad and Left Hand Wake up Dead stout in the last week. Luverly. Perhaps pointless and a waste of time to say it, but hell. We're on Beer Advocate. I thought we liked to talk about beer.
Personally, I would rather see threads like these rather than many of the redundant topics that get brought up every other day. I'm always happy to read about someone getting stoked about a great beer experience. I still have yet to try a Sculpin on draft. Never at the right place at the right time or out of town or away when it's around my area. It will not elude me forever though!
These are all beers I can't get either. I believe my city dwelling bretheren have access to these beers but not us backwerds red nacks. The good news is - today I finally get to buy my first Hopothermia, and next week is my first dance with the 'Slam!
Cheers to that! I was just thinking about what a great week for beer this has been. In the last 7 days while out of town I found Evil Twin Imperial Doughnut Break on tap, picked up my first bottle of Event Horizon, found 2 week old Espresso Oak Aged Yeti, purchased multiple 4pks of Founders Imperial Stout, and I tried Goose Island Lolita in a bottle. Thought that was an amazing week with those finds alone however, on my return home, I happened to discover a liquor store on the outskirts of my home town that had 6 DFH World Wide Stouts bottled in 2009! My state hasn't even had DFH distribution for the last year or two! So I suppose I had the stout equivalent of your great beer week. Still have yet to try Sculpin but I'm very interested after all I've heard about it.
I'm fully aware of the proper glass. The "stout", the "pale ale", the "pilsner", the "wheat" the " blah blah blah". Does anyone enjoy the "mug" anymore? I have a Binding bier .5 liter mug that enhances every beer I pour into it. Other than a clear Solo cup or a Mason jar, I think it's the perfect beer vessel.
Yeah, this thread probably could have gone here (but there's no pic) and disappeared into nearly 600 pages of posts, but it didn't... Good haul, @DaltonC! Gonna lock this one now, but thanks for sharing! Cheers, Brian
